HELP for the love of GOD.

Okay, i am so baffled. I got my digital Fostex 8-track, my PC, and a RCA-to-1/32" cable. Now, i want to know HOW i can transfer files from hard drive to hard drive via this cable. I get them plugged in and haven't found out how to succesfully record onto the PC hard drive. I know it has something to do w/ selecting the line in but it always ends up being some 1.) static noise in with no musicality to it at all or 2.) no sound at all. Anyone got any suggestions? Please...
 
You will also need a program for multi-tracking ......
 
What kind of soundcard do you have???????

How many inputs???????
 
Are you sure that your are using the LINE IN not the MIC IN?

Okay, the it IS a RCA to 1/32. It's the same size as like a cd player's headphone jack. I haven't tried it on this computer because this one was broken when i did but i know for a fact my soundcard was stock w/ the PC. I think i had been plugging it into the line in... this one has a line in and a mic in so i'll try both. Also, i was just using the PC to mixdown so i could clear up programs on my digital 8-track. Okee doke. bye!!

Well first off the mini headphone jack (or the one on your sound card) is 1/8 inch by the way. I don't know much but I do know this:).

I can honestly say I have tried the stock soundcard line in before on a couple of computers and have had no luck getting any decent sound. Also I would guess that the output on the fostex is to high for the sound card.

Either way the noise and interfearance on a stock soundcard will kill most recording you pipe through it. For about $200.00 to 300.00 (for a sound card) and a recording software demo you could be in business.

---Try getting running the headphone-out of the Fostex to the line-in of the PC. Fostex=50% max volume, PC rec level=50%. Start recording with whatever software you're using, and then play the Fostex. -What software are you using?
---Make sure the sound mixer in the OS has the volume and any other inputs muted and the line-in turned up all the way, and not muted.
---OEM generic soundcards and on-board sound chips can be very lousy, lacking important features such as input source. An SBLive5.1 is a big step up, and only costs $32 USD OEM.
