Could anyone tell me if RAM that is compatible for the SiS 630 chipset would also be compatible with the SiS 530 chipset.

I have an older Jetway J-530BF m/b with the SiS 530 set.
I cant find anything that says "compatible with the SiS 530".

They all seem to start with the 630.

I know I need 168-pin DIMM(3.3V) but want to be sure since I will almost certainly be buying off the internet because I would like to get 2 sticks of 256 for somewhere close to $100 if I can.

Any info would be very appreciated. Memory and a CDR are all I have left with the infernal machine.
Its taking me forever.
Thanks

You can check out Crucial RAM.

http://www.crucial.com/

The price is a little bit more than your bargain basement RAM, but at least they test it on different operating platforms. If you're lucky, you may even find RAM to match your computer model.

Buy some decent namebrand SDRAM, micron, samsung etc.

Stay within the specs - which you already know. 168pin, 3.3V SDRAM. The board supports up to 768MB. So 2 X 256MB will work.

SDRAM is SDRAM for the most part, it's not like changing spark plugs on your car. There are other variables, ECC, Non-ECC, most likely you want non-ECC.

That is an older board, super socket 7. I'd price out other options before spending $100 on an outdated system.

But, I don't know what your application is. What is it?

Your fairly safe to order any 168pin PC-133 SDRAM and it will work in your machine. There isn't motherboard namebrand specific, memory. Not in 'clone' PC's anyway.

Danke, Evildick

that deffinitely did give a good start.

Emeric......what would be a cheaper option?

This is my application: I have a VS880V-EX 8 track and an MC303 Groovebox and cheap keyboard w/ MIDI (and guitars and mics).

I have an Audiowerk sound card w/ Logic 3.6(some lite version) wich I dont like very much....but that card will get me started.

I have Acid Pro 2.0/Sound Forge 4.5.

I will eventually get Vegas and drop Logic.
All of this will be for mainly composing rythm beds in Acid and recording to the VS880. And either bringing the 880 over to some friends houses and lying down tracks or just recording guitar tracks at home.

I have an AMD K6-3 550 w/a 40G drive and 256/512MB ram with NO perifrials(sp??).
This rig will NOT be hooked up to the net, have NO games, etc...
It will have 98SE and things like EXCEL and WORD and stuff.
I was goint to have a printer but I can just archive track sheets, etc. on the computer and if I need any thing printed I can burn it and print off this computer wich is our upstairs general use computer.

So far....between christmas gifts and shopping for the components (including rom/floppy/usb/monitor/....) I have spent less that $100.

Thats where I'm at....but I am alway looking to explore options....

thanks

Well .....I went Cruicial

Thanks Evildick.

I bought my memory for the link you gave me.

They had a the exact thing for my specific mobo and seem very credible and its $50 bucks a stick AND it will be here Friday.

No screwing around.

I've waited long enough.

Time to build this damn thing.

Sounds good FZ.

I've used them a couple times and recommend them all the time. You would be surprised how the stability of a computer can be greatly influenced by the quality of RAM you use.

Other brands to keep in mind for future reference.

Mushkin, Corsair, Samsung, and Kingston
