OK... here's the story. Recently made the switch from a Fostex VF-16 to a Roland VS-2480CD. I am trying to take a CD of some mixes and upload them onto stereo tracks on the 2480 so that I can overdub some vocals. I used the coaxial output of my CD burner into the 2480's coaxial input. I am getting some weird distortion through the monitors (Roland DS-90As)... can't quite tell what it's coming from... seems to be a certain bass frequency, but the distortion is coming from the tweeters. I also tried the optical connections and got the same problem. I tried using three different sets of RCA cables and got the same thing. I also tried going out of a DAT machine and a DVD player, but still got the same weird distortion. I tried several different CDs and a DAT, so it isn't the source material... I even tried some commercial CDs. I thought maybe it was clipping, so I tried adjusting the rec att. dial and still got the same thing. If I play the CD in the 2480's CD drive there's no problem... I only hear the distortion when going out of a CD burner, DAT machine, or DVD player and into the 2480. Any suggestions would be helpful... I need to get this figured out ASAP. Could it be dust? Am I routing the signal wrong? Let me hear some solutions. Thanks in advance for all replies.
