Is anyone using powered monitors with a Tascam analog mixer? I have a pair of Fostex PMO.5 powered monitors, and I'm having a hard time figuring out what type of cable to use, . .and where on the board they should be plugged into????

The Fostex monitors have a Nuetrik combination connectors, that can accomodate; Phone plugs, and TRS (these are very similar to the connectors used on the Powered KRK V, series 2 monitors) http://img3.musiciansfriend.com/dba...an/m_602318.pdf

The board is a M-308, so I'm assuming that I should be using a pair of Phono cables from the MONITOR L - R (OUTPUT) phono plugs on the M-308. . . to the the Fostex Monitors. but, I'm not sure??? Also, can I use regular 1/4" instrument cable work?

I hope everyone is having a fun & safe Memorial Day! :D

On your mixer there should be 2 main outs. They may be called monitor outs, but it sounds a little weird......phono main outs? Usually main outs are 1/4" TR or TRS.

sounds like 2 cables with phono at one end and 1/4 inch mono at the other would do fine.

Thanks for the help guys. . .!

But, I think I might have confused everyone, . . It looks like the Tascam M308 mixer has both 1/4" and Phono plug MONITOR OUTPUTS. . .

here is a link to the back panel of the M-308. http://www.sessiondrums.com/panel1.jpg

So, I'm guess that I want to be using a 1/4" mono to 1/4" mono cable? But, I'm not sure. . .

Looks like the one "output" for 1/4" is the only possibility. I'll try to remember to take a look at my manual to see if that's what that is for. Otherwise, you'll need a speaker cable with rca to 1/4" ends I guess.

M-308 Manual specs . . .

I found the spec sheet for the M-308, and apparently the 308 has both 1/4" and RCA (Monitor outputs) Here are the specs:

Monitor Output
1/4"
Output Impedance: 20 ohms
Minimum Load: 2 k
Nominal Load: 10 k
Nominal Output Level: 0 bdu (0.78 V)
Maximum Output Level: +20 dBu (8 V)

But, how do I determine if I should be using a TS, or TRS cable to connect these powered monitors. . . ?

Also, for anyone that is interested, . . Here is a here is a complete copy of a Tascam M308 spec sheet in PDF form: http://www.sessiondrums.com/Tascam M-308 Spec sheet.PDF
enjoy!

So, I'm guessing that 1/4" Mono to 1/4" Mono plugs work to connect these Fostex powered speakers to a M308, .. . ?

Anyone, anyone, . .Bueller. . .? :p

#49 on your picture represents the two monitor out choices.

The RCA pin jacks are -10db, unbalanced and the 1/4" phone plugs are 0db, unbalanced outs.

The 1/4" outs on the mixer will be 10db louder and that's it, otherwise, it's the same unbalanced signal.

The more important issue to look at is what are the powered monitor's electrical requirements signal wise and bal/unbal wise. If they'll work with an unbalanced TS input, go ahead and use a couple of "decent quality guitar cables" and you're done.

Cheers! :)

I know, I know, . . I put waaaaaaaay to much thought into this question  But, I just wasn't sure if the MONITOR Outputs on the M308 was a Mono TS, or a TRS. But, I gotta a pair of 1/4 mono instrument cables,. .and I'm not lookin back baby!!!! :p Thanks again 'FM'

I usually have my powered monitors hooked up to the rca mon outs. I used mic cables, left the XLR's on one end, snipped the other end and attatched good quality rca leads.

You want to use the monitor out normally so that you can control your monitors without effecting what you are mixing down.

This is unbalanced, but your monitors will likely be less than any lenght of wire to be of concern.

Consult your monitor manual, but if you want you should be able to use patch cable that is rca on one end and 1/4" TS on the other.

Thanks for the input guys, . . Unfortunately, there was no manual that came with my Fostex PM0.5's. But, I thin the way to go is 1/4" to 1/4" Mono instrument cable in the MON OUT plugs on the Tascam 312b, and 1/4" to RCA (unbalanced) for the Tascam 388. . . :D
Thanks again for the help, . .
