i hope this is the right forum for this. I have the following:

yamaha mg16/6fx
m-audio delta 1010 rack
alto 2 ch compressor
behringer tube preamp
american audio 15" active PA speaker
computer with addtnl audigy card
2 sets of wireless headphones

i am trying to hook all of this up. i want to be able to plug as many instruments or mics as possible in at any time. currently, i have the 4 buses from the yamaha going into the first 4 inputs of the delta 1010. i may have some effects on those channels within the computer, so i want to be able to hear the final value that is being recorded.

i want to have outputs running to the PA speaker which can take 1/4", xlr, or rca inputs. i also want to be able to have the inputs running to the headphones which can take 1/4", 1/8", or rca.

i was trying to find a way to run the computer back into the mixer, but if the mixer has channels running into the computer, i can't see how to do that.

also, should i run the compressor and tube preamp as side chains into the mixer and just run my mics through there?

please help!!!!

You use either the channel inserts or the group sends into the 1010, and have the 1010 feed its output(s) back into stereo mixer channels into the aux sends (for headphone mixes) and L-R main mix.

Usually a sidechain refers to triggering a compressor with a signal independent of the signal being compressed, which is a specialized application.

I would run the tube pre into a a stereo channel or a couple of the mono channels (assuming it's a two channel pre), and set up the compressor on those channel's inserts (if you have chosen to use the group sends). Or you can use the aux sends to the compressor. Lots of options.
