To all:

I have tried to create a computer recording studio but I am having problems with recording levels. I am currently using a Behringer Eurodesk 2004MX(20CH) mixer and a CMI8738 PCI audio card. I run the microphone into channel 1 on the mixer and set the fader to -0-, I get good quality sound in the headphone jack of the mixer but when I record everything is muffled. I am currently using the Tape out RCA jacks on the mixer to feed an audio signal to the line in of the CMI8738. It's probably the crappy sound card but any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Todd,
Try using a different source into your card like a cassette player. That will narrow down the source of the problem to either your Eurodesk or your card.

are you monitoring in your software to make sure your signal is hot yet not clipping?....cant go over 0 db.....

yes its a crappy soundcard but even crappy soundcards will get you a decent enuff signal......

I used to use my old Tascam Porta 2 and it would work fine.... So I decided a nice quieter mixer would be in order so I bought the Behringer...... It seems that I might have an impedance problem. When I monitor inside of Cooledit Pro I have to really boost the signal to get it close to -0- DB usually it hangs back at -7 to -4. I wonder if the ouput is not strong enough? I might also try a SB Live that I can get my hands on to eliminate the CMI sound card.
