Recently, I have become interested in the Sonor Force Series. But the different series are made of different woods. 1005 is basswood, 2005 is birch, and 3005 is maple. Which type of drum wood will be able to penetrate and be heard through loud music (metal, funk metal)?

Maple would...

Go with Maple.

Birch is great in the studio, but it doesn't seem to stand up as well as Maple when it comes to temp changes or being moved around a lot (gigging).

I've used mostly Maple for Metal and Birch for Funk, so for Funk Metal I guess both kits would be fine. What do some of your Idols use?

Basswood is a less-expensive alternative to Maple, with similar tonal properties. Some drum companies combine basswood with maple to create a good sounding kit at a decent price point. If you're trying to save some money, that would be the way to go. (Ha, that WOOD be the way to go... no pun intended... :D)

But I don't think Sonor makes 'em that way, so go with Maple if you can afford it.

Maple is hard, and therfore loud. Has good quick response for sharper fast notes. And I agree with above completely Birch rocks in the studio.
