I have been reading all sort of specs, reading reviews... and of course drinking to forget what I read.

I have what may me the right set up for me:

anyone think I shouldn't do this? I am just putting together a little studio for recording my stuff. I have no intention to do any big time recordings, just me my guitar or bass or keys. once in a while I may have a drummer over. I have a mixer.

Sorry, that link only takes me to the MF home page. What exactly are you looking at?

Keep drinking for sure. But, as noted, nothing shows up on the link. Did you pour one in your PC?

Before you buy, check the prices at Full Compass on the "exact" same gear you are planning to buy.

About 90% of the time I get lower prices from FC, sometimes a great difference from quotes from the other major 800 vendors.

If you are absolutely brand new, with no MIDI or extensive computer experience whatsoever, go to eBay and find a sequencer program named Magix 7, or something similar. You'll be able to spot it easily because it sells for $12.95 or something in the twelves. It will cost you twenty dollars minus a few pennies for shipping and the unit cost.

Play with this program for a while before you decide to spend serious money on anything fancier.

This program will record MIDI and audio files and it will let you know if you are the type of person that should spend a lot of money on home recording programs/equipment.

Believe me, home recording via computer is not for everyone as it requires lots of initiative and patience.

I am assuming that this is what your MF page was supposed to show, since all I got was the opening page with no equipment indicated.

Good luck.
