I need help in the Basics in Vocal Editing, Processing and Such?

I will be recording Hip-Hop and R&B over commercial beats to start off and get my vocal editing and processing On Point.

Before I start I would like to know any tips, suggestions, comments and such information that will make me a better producer.

---------------------------------
I'm working with following equipment:

N-Track (Software)
EMU-0404 Card (Interface)
Yamaha 10/2 (Mixer)
Samson 65a (Monitors)
MXL6* Mic w/ Stand and Pop Filter
----------------------------------

if you browse some older posts or do a search, there is tonnes of info on how to do the vocals; way more than could ever be written in one post. Some general stuff:
No amount of software magic will fix poorly recorded vocals. You need a good mic (i like using a decend condenser), a good set of headphones that dont allow bleed though and a sound card taht can capture at at least 44.1 and 16 bit (pretty standard now), assuming you are using a computer to record. Positioning the vocalist is important and using a pop filter helps as well.
As for effects, a bit of reverb, compression and EQ usually does the trick for me. Sometimes i'll autotune a note or two if they are not sounding good.

I think the best advice I've seen on this subject came from Chessrock, not too long ago-

Have plenty of bobblehead dolls handy.

It's kind of the new secret "protocall."

The rappers will think you are hip and cool if you have lots of bobbleheads -- the more, the better. Bobblehead on the console . . . Bobblehead on the toilet . . . Bobblehead in the refrigerator.

Anywhere you can think of.

Oh yea, and Vanilla Ice. Hang some Vanilla Ice posters on the wall. They'll know you mean business.

Peace out

HeeHee.
