help! anyone with an mr8

Hi there

I'm a newbie, and I've got a question that should be pretty simple for anyone who has updated their own mr8 before.
Here's my problem: I have an mr8 and a new 512 card that's supposed to be compatible. Of course, when i try to send between my pc and the mr8 i get an error message. That's what the software update is supposed to fix, right? Well now my problem is i cant find out how to get the update from the pc to the recorder. I found all the right links and can get the file, but i can't open up the read me file for some reason about the incompatible Japanese characters or something.

I guess all i really need is instructions on how to send the software update from my pc and put it on the recorder.

any help will be much appreciated.

the update comes with a pdf file that tells you how to do it , if you have win 98 you will need a card reader,

its been along time but i think you just copy the file onto the 128 original card, and start the mr8 hooked up by the usb,

im my case i just copied the file to the cf card, inserted the card and started the mr 8
 
I used a CF card reader to copy the update to my card and then ran it from the card. At the time I was running Windows 98SE. Now I have updated my computer with XP on a second drive but I have not yet tried to use the USB mode on the MR-8.
