Hi,

My boyfriend is an awesome freestyler and I'd love for him to have a way to record his stuff. I want to suprise him for his birthday and am looking at spending about 200$AUD on a super basic recording set up. Like microphone and what ever programs. As you can probably tell I have no idea what to get and the second I ask him it'll ruin the suprise lol. If anyone has any ideas or can give me a run down on what I should get I'd be really thankful :)

Does he have access to a computer? If he does, I'd say just pick up an SM57, a preamp, and the cables to connect it.

For even more basic,

MXL 990 USB mic directly in.
Reaper recording program
Headphones

dont get a dynamic mic like tthe sm57 he want a condenser for rap vocals...

you may be pushed buying new mic & preamp for that price (whats that like 100 quid?)

maybe a usb condenser if ur buying new....or you could maybe get a second hand interface and mic something like the at2020...

i believe reaper is free recordin program...
other proper programs can be free...
oh yet he needs headphones, it dont even matter on the quality of those a 5quid pair is fine, later he will be needin monitors to mix, but for now that will get em goin

no, its not. but its cheap and the best i can think of. the trial is free and lasts indefinitely.

what do you mean CAN be? if they werent already? thats warez actually.

a 5 quid pair is fine if you want bleed and not to hear yourself. Get some HD-202s be seinheiiser

if she has a hundred dollar limit how does she budget for expensive headphones?. idiot...i have a 5 quid pair & they dont bleed..

Don't know if you all have a best buy there or something simular.. but you can try this is that all he is going to be doing is recording vocals

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8437159&st=m-audio&type=product&id=1183160884818

you can order it from the best buy also to be shipped...

Shure SM57 (i use it for on-location recordings) does well with recordings vocals esp. when the recording area isn't treated for recording... if that dont have a treated room the condenser mic with pic up every sound in the room

the headphones i mentioned were 20 bucks

as far as your other questions, they were made in stupidity and were answered in the like - and you respond AGAIN in stupidity. very nice :D you are consistent, at least.

Hmm. Unless if he's just starting out- dynamic might be actually preferable. (Not 57' though -vocal breath shielded?

what are you talking about?

i initially answered the thread by saying she should get a second hand condenser & interface...then use whatevers left to get a pair of headphones and a 5 quid pair will do. i dont give a shit about whether or not reaper is free, i have Adobe audition 3, nuendo and cubase and they were free.
