Hi Warhead, I recently got a Cad VSM1 and was hoping you or another user could answer a few questions I have about the mic. Hearzzz the questions:

1. Can the VSM be outfitted with a different tube? Have you ever done this, if so, what was the change (if any) you noticed?

2. Can I hang the VSM up-side-down (like the VX2) without any harm?

3. Is it o.k. to leave (global) phantom power running on my AllenHeath mixer and not harm the mic. Some mics take it, some don't...and the board doesn't have individual PP switches. I inadvertantly left it on, running to the VSM, and nothing bad happened.

4. Lastly, I was wondering what your take is on how the VSM1 compares to the VX2. Is VX2 the VSM sound only MORE so....bigger, deeper, warmer, smoother, clearer...is it darker than the VSM1? (Yeah,...it's deep blue :D ) I think the VSM is smooth, warm and dark enuff for me. So I was wondering if the VX2 had other attributes that set it apart from the VSM. Is it more O-P-E-N, or whatever...I'm running out of adjectives. I know it's more versatile, what with the multipatterns. (and it's got two tubes!)

I love the VSM on my vocals that are lower in register...up close to the mic.....I really haven't used it enough to know what all I think of it.....but I'm pretty sure it's a keeper. Somethin' about it. Thanks for any answers or reflections you have. all the best, Kenton

1) you can change tube but it will void warranty. I called and asked CAD the same thing re my M9 and this is what I was told. Use the search function here re: tube replacement 2) Most folks will recommend you hang the mic upside down to avoid internal meltdown. I read one clip here where someone didnt hang it upside down and it melted the glues on their CAD M9 and it came apart. Call CAD to be sure. 3) As I understand it, if the tube mic has a separate power supply, you dont need phantom power nor should you be using phantom power. Check your manual AND call CAD if necessary. 4) Cant answer #4. Use the search function!!! ;)
