Hello everybody

I just signed up here. I have a question in another part of this forum and did not realise about the newbie section. I'll repeat.

I really need some help as I would like to start recording a little soon with a friend who plays drums. We are going to do

some inexpensive home recording as a little bit of fun. I mostly know what I'm doing with everything apart this one thing I

need help with.

We are using the PS2 singstar microphones (Jack, not XLR). They work and sound great with the recordings we have done,

but I would like to set-up a multi-track recording with their own USB hub, that we did not use previously, instead just a

single/two split microphones through the mic port on the front of the laptop. The USB hub can be plugged into a USB port

on the laptop and has two small-jack microphone ports. Once the hub is plugged in, a blue light in the corner comes

on and with the first time, a dialouge box in the bottom right showed 'drivers have been successfully installed'. I have tested

the mics individually in the mic port like I said and they work fine. But hitting the record button in Adobe Audition 1.5, the

recording program I am using, with the USB hub selected as the track's recording device, the program freezes and then tells

me there is an error. Upon further inspection of the device in the computer recording devices, no level is displayed next to

this particular device (as pictured) and cannot be used to record anything on the laptop as it is. It needs modifying somehow

and I don't know what to do. People have made this work on other computers by changing something in some 'advanced

menu' but I do not see where this is located... Please check my screenshots.

I'm wondering how I can record with this device. I'm also wondering if these two microphones would be able to be assigned

to two seperate tracks in audition or whether the device will just appear as one and the microphones will be split left/right

to record on 1 track simultaneously?

Thankyou very much!

OK, first I would like you to follow the troubleshooting steps below:

1.) Try disabling all recording devices (IDT Microphone/Line in and IDT Microphone Array) except the USB mic. There should only be one active microphone.

2.) The next thing is to configure AA 1.5 to use this USB MIC. Follow the steps:
a.) Launch AA1.5
b.) Go to Multitrack view.
c.) Go to Options -- Device Properties -- Click "Wave In" tab. And then select the USB from the choices. Click OK.
d.) Then go to Options -- Device Order -- Click "Recording devices" tab and then make sure the USB mic is set as the first device (only device). Click "Use in EV" then click OK.
e.) Restart AA1.5
f.) Go to Edit View.
g.) Go to File -- New -- Select 48KHz, mono, 32-bit float then click OK. You will perform a test recording.
h.) While speaking to the microphone (make sure its connected to your computer), go to Options -- Monitor Record Level.
i.) If you see the level meters on the AA1.5 moving while you have enabled "Monitor record level", it means there is a received signal from the USB microphone.
j.) Finally hit the record button.

Note: You can also try removing other USB devices connected on your computer except the USB microphone while performing this test. I would also ensure that the computer has been updated (e.g. using Windows SP3) as USB drivers might be corrupted or incompatible with Singstar.

If the above steps doesn't resolve the issue. It has something to do with your OS and USB drivers dealing with the audio. In that case, you can either try doing the test above in another computer to isolate the OS/USB drivers issue; of course installing AA1.5 on that computer also.

Hello! Thanks for your great reply! Sadly this does not work because the microphone itself doesn't seem to be registered properly, so it's probably the OS or USB ports... ah.

Thanks a lot! :)
