Hello Everybody!

Long time musician, analog recording noob/enthusiast here.....

Just wanted to introduce myself to the forum (i've lurked here and used it for a ton
of info previously)

Just bought a Tascam 388 and it seems to be in very good shape. All knobs/faders/buttons work and the transport seems to be working good too. I just cleaned the tape path/heads with 91% alcohol and cotton swabs. The heads look like they are in good shape.

Any idea for a decent, low priced demagnetizer? Also need advice on actually using one. The whole dance of death kinda worries me....I know you have to move slow/follow path of tape/touch metal parts but not the heads/etc. If anybody has any tips/pointers/good tape to use (Quantegy 457? Scotch 206 or 7? LPR 35?)it would be much, much appreciated by this ultra-noob!

Thanks
-Nick-

There's a section in these forms titled 'Analog only' - that's your best bet for these questions.

Guess i'll get some questions up and post over at the analog forum

Welcome. I'll just say, you turn it on and hold it really close to whatever you're trying to demagnetise, (the heads are the most important things to demagnetise), then , keeping it turned on, you slowly move it away until it's at least a couple of feet away before you turn it off, because if you turn it off when it's near to something and it's at the top of a cycle, it will leave everything magnetised.

thanks timx3

I am about to post over in the analog forum as I have some pics of the heads I wanted to post.
