hi i'm recording a few demos for a school project and cannot seem to mic my amp right. i've got a marshall dsl 100 into a peavey valveking 4X12 cab, don't use any footpedals except a crybaby wah. i'm recording with a tascam dr-2d handheld recorder and i figure that's the problem, but anything i record sounds flat, overpowered and crackles a lot. if i try to move it further away it sounds like its coming from another room. my question is there something i could do with what i got or do i need to find another mic? thanks in advance.

Just a guess but you're probably overloading the handheld recorder. Turn the volume down on the amp and try it again. If the distortion is gone, there you are.

Oh yeah. That is a mic overload if I ever heard one. It can't handle that.

Ouch!

Turn the amp down.
