Great look. I have an astatic that i use on Harp (it alwyas cuts out after hard playing though, so only use it in the studio now.)

My jazz band uses the new Shure Elvis mic that I picked up used, but it never gets that great of a sound. Anyone used or demoed this heil mic?

Says it has the same capule as this, th PR 20, so comments on that would apply too.

Thanks.

I would just fix your Astatic or find another (JT-30). They are some of the best sounding harp mics ever.

Are you asking for comments about the mic as a prop, a vocal mic, or a harp mic.

It might be too big to cradle for harp, you would need phantom on your
live mixer to get the cool lights, and the head is shaped differently than
tha pr-20 which has been widely reviewed, so it's unclear if it will sound
like the pr=20.

Since it's your money, I'd say go for it! Then let us know how it sounds.
Since you have a trad jazz band, it will look cool on your band promo pictures.

And If it sounds like the pr-20, it will even be a great live mic.
I'll bet you would have no trouble selling it, if you don't like it.

I'm thinking live vocal mic. I know most of the modded harp mics usually took the fin off. The Shure that I put in front of our female vocalist looks just great, but unless a singer's lips are right on top of it, it doesn't sound so hot. I feel like I have to crank the gain on it, and always worry about getting anywhere close to feedback because I'm doing the sound and trying to play a big old double bass at the same time.

So yes, I'm interested in any further comments on the PR-20, despite the differences that the shape is sure to cause. The prod. description also seems to hint that there is some kind of presence boost in the midrange. My guess would be that this would be something like a 58?

I did a search and saw that Harvey uses the pr20 on guitar cabs, but doesn't like it so much for vox. And Warren has used the PR20 to record a vocalist that just *had* to have a handheld to perform in the studio. Anyone else?

I've just sort of talked through one of these Blue Fin mics and it's certainly slightly strange sounding and I believe it's due to the casing. There is a little phase-y stuff going on, I don't want to go too deep here and completely discount the usefulness of the mic having only heard it on my voice briefly, but my brief encounter was a bit "eh".

Thanks, Warren. That's a bummer, though, because it's totally the look my band needs, and the Shure isn't really cutting it. I wonder if there's a way for me to get a mic in front of/underneath the shure and just have it there as a prop.

Sure, just go with something small. You could always try one and see if it fits YOUR needs! It might work well on your voice who knows. Again I am basing my initial opinion on a pretty quick test. Hope to get to use it more in the future, but seriously it'll probably be a while before I can.
