hi there,

I might trade in one of my guitars for a Fender Mustang ... I am frank to admit that I know very little about them ...

can you help me?

is this a jap or a MIA? original or re-issue?

anything you know about them ... how do they compare to a strat in terms of sound? ... I am generally rather knowledgable on guitars, except for fenders :D

so - throw in anything you know ... you can bet its new to me ;)

click on the pics

cheers
alfred

I had a Mustang a long time ago. The bridge, pups, and pegs were weak and I replaced all of them. It's a cool short scale that'll do a real out of phase twang. I don't understand their vintage appeal.

Not a Mustang exactly

but I have an old, I mean vintage, Duo Sonic / Musicmaster ( it was a year when they actually used parts from both) which is pretty much the same thing except for a slight difference in pickups. Except in my case, it's a big difference because somebody put a DiMarzio humbucker in the neck position. Anyway, the thing about them aside from what apl said is that being a short scale, the notes in the top of the fretboard die out really quick. No sustain at all. Unique sound though. Walter Becker used to use one a lot, as did Todd Rundgren.
