Hey guys, one of my most recent and biggest sounding mixes yet. Figured I'd post it to here to get some criticism before I get my buddy to lay some vox over it.

Also... what kind of vocals could you see fitting it and at what parts? Screaming, clean, raspy, growls etc...

And of course tell me about any part of the mix that bugs you! :D
Thnx!

*EDIT:
I threw some synth in to the bridgey part, let me know if it works.

Loved it! Good production...nothing bothers me about the mix. .....for vox: i think a raspy voice would work well throughout the song......for the bridge: something raspy but whispered....maybe even clean vocals as the lead with a whispered raspy background vocal.

I like the synth in the bridge....works well.

Please post the finished version.....looking forward to hearing it.

Great stuff!

Thank you sir! Appreciate the feedback.
Definitely, I'll make a note of doing so.

Aside from giving the rhythm guitars a low-pass somewhere around 12-15k, the mix sounds great. Also, and this is just personal preference, but breakdowns piss me off because EVERYBODY DOES THEM and once you've heard one they all start to sound the same.

Not to hate on your song, it's actually quite good.

What bothers me about the mix, is the friggen happy ass smile on your avatar! LOL!

The mix sounds awesome dood. Seriously cool. I do however notice a bit of fatigue in my ears after awhile. I think it is the cymbals, or a combination of that and fizzyness of guitars around 7k-ish. Just a minute tweak that my monitors are telling me. Of course, I could just be jealous and creating false criticism cuz your mix rules. :D

Nice work man. :)

hahaha! yes that pic is a personal favourite :D

You are right, I showed it to my dad and he's like "derrr too bright".
I did boost 8k on the guitars quite a bit... oh I'm bad

Cymbals... too much hi-end? Too much volume? Or just too much china - hehe.

Thanks for the advice, and the compliments! :)

I'm gonna go with a combination of volume, as well as some harshness that needs to be addressed with EQ on the cymbals. China actually sounds great to me. Was it made there? lol. No, china sits fine in mix to me. It's the sizzle on the right crash that gets to me the most. Or is that the HH? Hard to tell cuz it's all ssssssssssss sounding to me. I have been told I have dog ears when it comes to high end stuff by a few engineers. It just makes my brain hurt or something.

You are way close to making this sound awesome.

Now, go and ruin it with vocals. LOL!

Mix sounds nicely balanced, good definition on the fast double kicks and they're well weighted too. Good composition, well structured tune

Sounds pretty good. The only thing that sounded out-of-place to me was that whenever the guitars sustained, it seemed to split into two bands. One was the brutal, bludgeoning low end; and the other was the higher end. I'm guessing you have large swaths in the middle that have been EQ'd way down? If you bring that up a little (at least in parts), it would sound more like one, unified guitar, I think.

I like the synths.

As to vocals, it sounds like a standard metalcore song, but with a name like "Love of Death" in Latin, I think you should go for vocals more akin to Arch Enemy. More European metal, less post-hardcore punk.

Thanks a lot folks for the tips. Yeah I've got a screamer who can do August Burns Red sort of stuff so we'll see how that goes :P
I know what you mean about breakdowns, however this song was mostly composed by a friend, I just did mixing, mastering and some additional composition.

Yeah the two bands are because I have 4 guitar tracks panned mostly hard left and hard right with high shelfing and low shelfing.
That's so weird, I know what you're talking about with the sustained notes but I've never noticed it... or should I say it has never bothered me.

Cheers!

I think it sounds like it should. The synth stuff fits just fine I think. The only thing that stuck out to me was that it feels a little sloppy around the 2:25 mark. There is a lot of stuff going on that all needs to lock in together tighter.

Thanks Boz, will take a listen to that as well, I think I know what it is :)

Holy mother of God, how did you get the drums and guitar to sound so huge??? I want my drums to sound like that lol

Awesome power!
The cymbals sound pretty shrill, you gotta retouch them again. The guitars sound a bit too scooped for my liking but that's just my opinion, I like more mids....
The bass is murdurously good. Don't fuck this up with a growling vocal.
You're on the right track so keep working at it!

I'll take a gander at those links later today, as of right now, I'm downloading this and it's going straight into my iTunes library

Are you sure this wasn't done in a studio?!

I love this. I would kill to have my mixes turn out this heavy. Great Work!

I love this. it is a bit muddy though, other than that and the stuff about the guitars needing a high cut and same with the cymbals i'm liking it. i might take this and actually do my own lyrics and send it back to you if thats cool?

let me know.
