I am in my first attempt at recording myself with my computer. I have a Mackie 1202, and Power Tracks for an editor. I have the Mackie board running into my line input, with the speaker jack hooked into the cd input on my stereo. I can record, stop recording and play back fine through the stereo. Can I play what I am recording through my stereo speakers so I can hear myself while recording? What I want to do is record a guitar track, stop, then add a violin track while listening to my guitar track on my stero. Has anyone done this?

If your sound card is full duplex, sure.
How you do this depends on how you're gonna feed the violin to the computer. If it's off of a pickup you probably won't get too much cross-talk from monitoring on your speakers, but if you're using a mic or just want more absolute separation, feed the guitar track, mixed with the incoming violin, from the computer to headphones. That way each track is recorded separately which makes editing a lot easier.
