Heaphone amps?

I'm confident (hopeful, at any rate) that my girlfriend is getting me a nice pair of studio headphones for Christmas, as requested.

I do my recording work on PC. So here's my dumb newbie question: What do I need to get the best sound out of these fancy cans? I hear a lot about "headphone amps," but wouldn't know how to incorporate one into my fairly simple PC setup. (As it stands now, I plug my Sony's into the headphone jack on the computer speakers. Not ideal...)

Any advice/recommendations? Thanks!

Yo Wizbri: [made by Kraft?]

There are a load of can amps out there; watch out for those that look cosmetically great.

I have an old small 4 plug Peavey that works just great. You can buy better.

Should be no big problem to hook it up to your rig. I'm sure Bruce V. can tell you how. I don't use a pc at this stage. So, I run a stereo plug from my MD-8 can plug to the input of the Peavey and just plug in additional cans, up to 4, when needed; usually just need one extra set of cans for singing clients; once in a while another set for the guy paying for the recording.

Check These Out

Seasons Greetings !

Take at look at these. I too am buying new headphones and an amp for my studio. This is some of the research that I have done. The Rane site was the most informative site that I found. Hope this helps.
For headphones,I am leaning torwards the sennheiser hd 25, the akg 141m,and the sony mdrv700dj.
For the amp, Rane hc6 is my choice. They seem to know their shit more than any manufacturer I have gotten info from.
Too bad they don't make headphones.
