I own quite a few pairs of cheap phones for bands to track with (more me's and some of the less expensive Akg's). It came to my attention when trying to decide on a christmas gift that I don't have one really good pair of phones in my home studio.
I know that the Sony MDR-7506 are pretty much the standard but does anyone have any opinions on the Akg-K240 or the Sennheiser Hd 280 pro. They all run for about $100 depending on where you buy. I think I have used the Akg's before but its been a while. I am leaning torward the AKG's because they look the coolest (LMAO) I know thats the wrong way to go about this, so someone talk me out of them if they really suck.
These are going to be my personal pair and won't be destroyed by a crappy drummer. So Good or bad opinons on these phones would be greatly appreciated.

The AKG's are as good (or bad) as any other headphones.

My last pair of AKG 240's lasted 6 months, gradually falling apart all the time. I finally bought a pair of Ultrasone Trackmaster's - they cost twice the price, but are still going strong and sounding great after a year.

Put the 240's in the tracking room, and consider investing in something better for yourself...

Scientist-what exactly went wrong with your AKG's? Did you not have a warranty? 6 months is a really short life for a piece of gear. Did you do anything to abuse them or was it just regular use?

I think the HD280s are excellent, buy I haven't extensive experience of the others in that price range. They're very comfortable, have a subjectively well balanced sound, and I've not had any isolation problems.

They are also servicable - you can replaced the ears pads, head band and, crucially, the lead at any point in the future quite easily.

Noisedude thanks for the input. I wonder how difficult it is to repair the sonys and the Akg's.
