Looking for some cheep headphones.
I want something in the $20.00 range. I will be using them for tracking.
Any suggestions?

Haven't tried Harvey's but I've had good results with the AKG K55's. Really good isolation and sound half decent.

Tukkis

Can someone tell me more about Harvey's headphones and how to get them? :D

I've heard bad things about K55s. K66s are supposed to be much much better for only a little more money... :)

I've reviewed Harvey's cans. Here is the review: http://www.mojopie.com/moreme.html I like them a lot.
I also recommend the AKG K44 as well.
Hey thanks for this post. I was looking at buying a MoreMe headphones 'cause the ones I have suck. Sure they cost $70, and the sound is pretty good.
However, it leaks sound like the Titanic leaked water, and after about 30 minutes of wear, your ears are ready to fall off. Anyway, thank you. :)

Dracon - I really really like my Sennheiser HD280s. A little more costly but they are user-servicable (you can replace the cable, ear pads and headband pad) and very good isolation. I have found them extremely comfortable where my fat head has disliked others.

Oh! So now you are insuating I'm a fat head???  :p ;) :D
I'll look into them, but I'm just going to use them for Tracking. I like the Sennheiser mic I have, so I don't see a problem with the Headphones. However, I was just at Guitar World and they're $99. Which is a little more ($79 or $69 more) than what I want to pay!! :)

By the way, and this is a real question. I have a buddy who bought BOSE headphones ($60 - I think), are they any good or are some of these better?

I just saw these at zzounds Sennheiser HD212 Pro Closed Headphones for $50 are they any good. They look kinda flimsy. http://www.zzounds.com/a--2676837/item--SENHD212

BOSE????????????????????????????

NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Overpriced crap with very clever marketing. Those cheaper Sennheisers will probably be ok. I have the HD202s but their isolation is not good enough for spoken word recordings, I would suspect. I certainly can't use them on acoustic guitar or vocal tracks, I get my click track recorded ten times over!!

EDIT - To be honest, I would think Harvey's would be your best best for cheap phones. I wouldn't buy the Behringer ones or the HD202s again.

silly question

Isolation, in headphones, is usesfull because??? It allows you to hear what is actualy being recorded, i.e. without the sound of say the instrument itself should it be paying at the same time, or some other moniters?

Hi I'm new.

So far, I havn't done much recording, are these elusive isolation techniques used to amplify what you are doing, as opposed to other musicians? Why not just turn off the other moniters, or switch them to the signal in question?

OR, does isolaiton do something for the played sound and relates only to headphone useage, regaurdelss of other ambient sound?

Seriously.

Isolation is the volume difference between putting them on and taking them off. Better isolation means less noise can sneak in and out.

This is good becase:
- If there's less ambient sound coming in, you can have your volume set lower in your cans. Then you get less hearing damage!
- On quiet tracks, particularly if you have a click track going, sound can leak out the headphones and into your mic, so you get stuff copied onto the track you're recording. Not good! I've had perfectly good sessions ruined by cheap headphones where in the quieter parts of a vocal you can here the bleep of a metronome in the background.

Sony MDR V150 - $20 at Guitar Center. $14.95 places on the internet. I tracked some vocals this last week and got no complaints from the singers.
