Headphones for tracking loud drummer

Hey people, i have a really loud drummer ive been trying to record and i just have a smallish room and im getting alot of bleed on my mics, so i want to record drums separate from everything else. i know i need to use closed-type headphones for the drummer, but what models block out sound the best. my main problem is that with just some crap headphones i have now, he cant hear what is coming through the headphones because he is playing so loudly. i need headphones that sound decent and will block out the most sound possible from the outside. any suggestions at all are appreciated!

well.... i dont *want* to spend more than 100 american but if a really decent product comes to my attention, i will spend more.
 
I have the exact same problem, I cant hear wtf is going on if im playing, doesnt matter how loud the phones are.
 
I found that the Vic Firth isolation headphones work outstanding because theyre made for drummers so they block ALOT. And they're pretty inexpensive, not more then 100.
 
I've got a pair of the Extreme Isolation headphones.

They work pretty well, but with extremely loud drums in the same room, there's not really any way I can think of to completely hear the mix over the drums.

Maybe the solution lies in giving the dummer a pair of headphones with the mix cranked so he plays softer?

Also, the Extreme Isolation headphones appear to be modified Howard Leight Thunder 29 earmuffs: http://www.outdoorsuperstore.com/store/products/productDisplay.asp?productID=279344
So, if your the diy type, you could just pick those up and slap in the speakers from a cheap pair of headphones to save some cash.

Not too sure how much sound reduction those will do though.
 
I use the Extreme Isolations in a small all-in-one studio room for most drummers without a problem. They give 29 db of reduction in sound. The good news is they're only $79

They give a full 45 db of isolation. The bad news - $285. But my mic placement decisions for loud amps and drummers improved 1000%.
