Hi, I have just got Cubase 6.5 Artist and Saffire Pro 14 interface. I can only monitor though right side of headphones - and playback what I have recorded through right side. VST cionnections seem good according to Focusrite tech support. They say it could be a hardware problem. Has anyone else experienced this?

Did you ever get sound out of both sides, or is this a new setup?
Are you using any adapters or converters that you can take out of the loop?

You need to do the simple tests.

Try another pair of headphones, even if they're just cheap earbuds.
OR
Try your headphones plugged into something else. TV, Radio, Hifi, whatever. Prove that they do or don't work.

Regardless of the outcome, check the main monitor outputs.
It doesn't really matter what kind of amp/speakers you test with. As long as you can confirm that signal is or isn't coming out of left and right.

If you end up proving that both the cans and speaker outputs are only giving one side, then the chances are it's a software issue rather than hardware.

Make sure cubase is set to output to L+R, or 1+2, whatever it's called, and make sure you don't have any pan knobs turned.
Keep those in the middle for now.

Hi, thanks. Cans work. Have tried several different sources, they are fine. Played Youtube through the Saffire, still only right side. It is completely new set up so I have never got sound out of both sides. Adapters all ok as cans work through CD player / other lap top etc. VST on Cubase Mono in IP1 (to record mic) , output bus set to stereo out. Haven't tried external speakers yet. Will try. Can't believe it would be a hardware issue but that is what Focusright have suggested. Does it sound like I have DAW settings correct? But then same problem when played Youtube through saffire. At a loss really

If anything you are playing in the computer is only coming out of the Saffire on one side, could it be a USB issue?

Hmmm well, this is a shot in the dark, but when I first got Cubase 4LE I had the same problem. It turns out I was recording a "stereo track" intended for 2 sources at the same time with only one source. Since it was one source, it was getting assigned to the R and since there was no second source there was nothing coming out of the L. Maybe that's what happening? Just make sure your tracks are set to a mono input.

If you're playing through youtube and hearing the same problem, the cubase is ruled out.
Proving the headphones to be fine on top of that means it's either a hardware issue or a driver issue, I think.

So, uninstall and reinstall your drivers. Be 100% certain that your drivers are bang up to date and for the correct platform.
Switch the usb cable for another one, and try a different usb port.

I'd test the main outputs before all that though. It'd be annoying if you did all that just to find out the headphone jack is faulty.

Thanks all for your help and suggestions. Will have a go at what you say.

Does your Saffire have Mixcontrol software?
If it does you should check the input and output connections.

In any way you should check out your Windows sound settings, maybe the audio is just balanced to the right?
