Alright, so every goshdarn headphone extension cable I've ever gotten has been nothing but total complete horseshit.

After no more than two weeks, I can count on it to short out on me . . . which is great if I (or clients) only want to hear things out of one ear and all, but what the f*&^k ? ? ?

Where can I get reliable, durable headphone cable . . . preferably 20 feet or more . . . that won't short out on me in two week's worth of use ? ?

Thanks,

Chess

Buy some quality cable, the appropriate plugs and sockets, fire up the soldering iron and make your own.

It's the best way and if something stuffs up you can blame yourself.

I found a Hosa ( I believe) 30 foot spiral cord that I've been using for a few years that kicks ass. Totally thick and durable.

Yo Chess:

You said, "Headphone" cable. That means "stereo plugs" right?

Well, I hate to say it but I've purchased a couple of cables from the SHACK of Radio and they are pretty good.

I have another I got from Carvin and that one works too. No shorts and no sputters.

The SHACK cables were gold-plated and didn't cost any more than ordering from Full Compass or MF. I've been ordering odds/ends from Musician's Friend lately because they have a 50% lower shipping cost. FC was twice as much. Every little buck helps keep me in Bombay for cocktail hour.

Green Hornet :D  :p :p

If you don't want to make them then just buy some good 1/4" balanced cable and put a female-female turnaround on the end so the headphones can plug in.

yeah I have a radio shack headphone extension cord too and have had no problems .. but i havent been using that one for a long time yet... i also have like a 5 dollar 20 foot cord i got from musicians friend that has to be at least a year old maybe older and that still works fine..... the only thing i dont like about the radio shack one is that it doesnt roll up nicely cuz its a thin wire and the way its in the package.. the one i got from musicians friend rolls up like a guitar cable... and remember never roll ur cables around ur arm that may cause damage to the wire and that can be why ur cables dont work properly

I'll vouch for the radio shack ones too.. I have a bunch of those and a Hosa one.. The Hosa one busted.

The radio shack extension works pretty good. But I need a longer one now.
Would some mogami mic cable and a female and male TRS connector do the trick? Is there a cetain length I shouldnt exceed if I take this route?

This was actually what I was getting ready to suggest, as I think for durability, it would be best. Most of the cheap cables break down where the cable ends, and the cheap sealed plastic plug begins. Soldering your own could bypass this problem, and even make the cable repairable.

Does anyone know a reason that mic cable wouldn't work for Headphones? I kind of touched on this in another thread, asking about running headphone signal thru the balanced sends on a 100' snake(which I still havn't tried)

I wonder about the length myself.

A balanced cable is a balanced cable. Just get a xlr to 1/4' trs adapter.

Chris, I guess your right since it will be like making a patch cable. But for the length, how long is to long?

Thanks

Damn. Why didn't I think of that? I must be some kinda' idiot or sumthin.' :D That makes perfect sense. Thanks, Tex.

Now where the heck can I get me a reliable male/female turnaround that doesn't suck? :D I'm serious. Any suggestions? Thanks!
