I know that some of you guys have similar problems, here's a story with a happy ending. :)

I have a pair of Sony studio phones that have been around since about 1992, still sound good but the earcups have disintegrated over time to the point where, after worn for a lengthy session, they leave black residue around the ears...I found a replacement source, but they wanted $25 just for earcups, so I figured I'd live with it, letting others use the newer, kinder, gentler phones and I'd just wash my ears...

Yesterday I had a friend over to lay down some soprano harmonies, and besides being an angel of a singer, she is also a seamstress...She saw what the Sony's were doing to my ears and said she could fix them...I kind of chuckled at that...

I'll have to post pics. She made covers out of Spandex swim suit material, tight, comfortable, and slip right over the existing cups...I'm having her make a couple more pairs for my other phones...I may have to market these damned things...

I can't even guess as to how many years its been since I've had a swimsuit wrapped around my ears... :D

Thats a cool idea.
I have a few headphones I love the sound of, but they leave black specks all over my face.
Is it like a small bag with elastic the slips over the side?

Ditto with the black specks. I'll post pics in a bit. They took her all of ten minutes to make.

Here are a couple shots. I chatted with her today, she says anyone with a sewing machine or a wife with a sewing machine can make 'em. She's doing another couple of pairs for me for my other phones...

She said that she's willing to make them for sale, if there's interest. They're basically one-size-fits-all, unless you had oversize or undersize headphones. Being as they're made of fabric, they should last a long, long time, and one of the best parts is that you can remove and wash them, or interchange them with other phones.

I didn't ask her what she'd charge, but it would be a hell of a lot cheaper than replacing the cups...If there's interest I'll post an email addy so you can inquire for yourselves...
