Can anyone recomend headphones that will let you turn up the volume without the sound bleeding out of the phones and in to the mic.
It seems to cause a kind of phase effect on the recordings, so I have to keep the volume down, and lose some of the feel.

Yo Too Close with the Mic Encounters:

Since you are "overseas," you might check out the Beyer 250 cans. You need to use CLOSED cans or you will pick up some feed especially close to the mic.

Try not to turn your head sideways which puts a can very close to the mic. Back away when you're waiting for a beat or two.

You should run some reverb into the cans while recording and then you may not have to turn them up so high.

I'll have a Laphroig neat.

Sennheiser HD200 or HD100. Real cheap, lots of bass and lots of volume.

Be sure to check the db's they can produce, or you'll end up with headphones giving not enough volume when recording with drums or guitar cabinets.

Ahhh Mr Hornet
You've just mentioned my favorite "poison"

Thanks for the advice everyone, I use a set of Sennheiser HD545
phones, they are first class quality. But I think you are right, closed phones are the only way to go.

Yo Mark102: [sounds like a college course in Laphroig drinking]

Didn't know that you had that stuff down under. They never show Steve Erwin drinking anything except snake venom and croc brew on our telly.

I first read about Laphroig in the novel, THE EIGER SANCTION. I just had to find out what it was.

Interesting brew of Scotch and it is only made on the Isle of Isley, [not sure of the spelling as I don't have a jug of the stuff at the moment.]

And, the distinct taste comes from peat which is found only on this isle and used as some type of filter.

They make the ten year old stuff, which runs around 20 USA dollars here and the 20 year olds stuff which is too expensive.

Enjoy,

It's definately a "special occasion" drink here. $90aud for 750ml where I live. Can get it a bit cheaper in the city (Melbourne) but that's about 1.5 hours drive for me.
I got hooked on it when a mate bought me a litre duty free for my 30th a few years back. I'll never forgive him ;)

Enjoy
