where does this come into play? my midas venice(on the way) has a head phone jack... do i need something more. or this for people in the room recording... slightly confused...
You can use your "headphone" jack to link up a can amplifier. Most can amps have 4 inputs which works for me in my small home studio. I just got a Rolls which has faders for each input/output; thus, you can give each set of ears adjustable input.
Make sure you use a stereo/balanced plug--from your recorder to the amp.
Beware of overly cosmetic looking units--they cost more and do less in many instances.
if you need just two pairs, then a simple splitter may be ok, or find another piece of equipment with a headphone socket on it to run a feed into, but where you need more than two pairs, a headphone distribution amp is a godsend and will make life a lot easier. you can have your headphone amp in your 'live' room and just have one cable feeding it from your 'control' room. it keeps things tidy and cable runs to a minimum.
personally - i'd recommend the samson s-phone as a good place to start - i've had mine over two years and it's solid, reliable and good sound. it's also flexible and controllable.
