Hi,

I just called TASCAM and they told me that the TASCAM 34B head life is 3000 hrs. Forgot to ask them if that's running 15 ips .... Do you guys know ?

Thanks!

Daniel

The life of a head depends also on proper alignment and tape tension.

I have a MSR24 which was used every day for six years before there was a head problem (dropouts).

When we put the head under a microscope, it was completely gone, but very even on all 24 channels/tracks.

If I'm right (and correct me if I'm wrong) a two inch head can last 10.000 hrs.

Daniel,

They probably meant 15ips in that it is the normal running speed of the deck and what it is calibrated to for level, eq and bias.

If the service rep's information is accurate, that means if you spent 6 hours of actual tracking time on each song~ sort of normal/average for overdubbing, that would equate to being able to do 500 songs or about 40 albums worth of material.

That's a long enough life for me and then some! :)

Cheers! :)
