i asked a long time ago how and what HDCD was, but i got all responses saying it was dithering a la normal style. but i read up some more, and found that on a regular cd pplayer i dont think you can hear the difference, but on the specialy made HDCD players you can. they encode the lowest 4 bits in the 16 bit source to actually be the last 4 bits, taking it 20 bits total. i thought that was interesting. thts all i could find, they probably didnt want to give away their secrets.
