right now i have a set up that i am happy with.
2 da 38's
1 mackis 24-8
and a great river mp2nv.
now, although i am happy with my sound and set up(espically after getting the mp2nv) i would like to upgrade my recorder.
i have been drooling over the hd24 but i am drooling even more over the pro tools idea. i am thinking digi001 and a mac g-4 and that would mean my current set-up would go bye-bye.
what do you guys think?
what would you do?
i am afaraid to go to a pc. i dont know shit about that stuff. i see i would get automation with pro tools and that gives me a boner.
but the fact that the hd 24 is 24 i/o at 24 bit also gives me a boner. i would imagine that with pro tools to be able to record 16 tracks at one time and be able to back it all up to a different drive and to be able to send cue mixes and shit would be big $$$$$.
i can do all of that now. what would you guys do?

Why are you afraid of a PC?

If you go with a digi 001... I would think long and hard about getting a Mac... Currently PC's built with the right components out-perform the fastest Mac's by about 3 times. (this means you can run more plug-ins, have a higher track count, and more automation with a PC)

However, Mac's DO have more plug-ins support. (Some plug-ins will work on a Mac but NOT on a PC)

So there is a trade-off

PC's currently have more horsepower and can run more plug-ins at once... and are much cheaper.

Mac's have more plug-ins supported but can run fewer of them and are more spendy.

BOTH can and do work well

You are joking right? Why would anyone pick a entry level digital recording platform over a workhorse Mackie 24x8 and a HDR24?

Client: uhhm... where is your recording thingy? you know that board thing!
You: uhh...well, it's this mac computer and this (trumpets) pro tools!
Client: uhh ok... but really, where is that mixer thing?

just having fun... but really, I'm a hands on guy and like a traditional control surface.

Besides.... I just bought a new P4 2.4 with two 120 gb hds. I think I'm going to use Sonar though for editing.
