I have (4) IDE CHANNELS, (1-2) IDE (3-4) IDE/RAID
MOBO is K7T266A PRO 2

HD 1 - Operating System ---- PRIMARY MASTER (pullout tray)
CDRW-----------------------------PRIMARY SLAVE
(Q: now does the ribbon go to IDE 1, then SPLITS into HD & CD)

HD 2 - AUDIO-------------------SECONDARY MASTER (pullout tray)

This is what confuses me, I'm told not to use the RAID IDE, unless it's two HD. Then I hear it's not good to have the HD & Optical on the same connector/IDE, so would that mean they couldnt be on that Y ribbon?

My MOBO came with (1) ribbon for HD, then (1) Y type ribbon, ONE (black tip) on one end splitting into TWO (blue, gray tips) and
(1)FDD for the floppy.

I want to be able to save AUDIO on HD2, Burn CD's of the AUDIO after I finish a mix etc...

Could I use 1 RAID IDE ?, so everything could be on it's own IDE :
IDE 1 = HD Operating System ---own ribbon----
IDE 2 = CDRW ---own ribbon----
IDE 3 = (RAID) HD2 dont use RAID ----own ribbon----
IDE 4 = EMPTY

So if someone can explain for me I'd appreciate it

-Ideally, you want any two drives you'll be using heavily at the same time to be on separate cables. This isn't so important anymore, especially with CD-RW drives: most now are burn-proof and that seemed to be the main justification. If you don't have any problems, don't worry about it: put your drives wherever it's easiest to hook them up. If you have lots of RAM and 7200 RPM hard drives, it very well may never matter.
-To utilise the RAID, you probably have to turn the feature on in the BIOS. I'd guess that the connection defaults to the regular IDE channels.
-At the very worst, with the primary HD and CD-RW drive on the same cable, you'll just have to avoid running other programs while you're actually burning CD's, or you'll have to burn at a lower speed.

Thanks, I'll keep everything as put

HD1 Primary---------\ O.S./Cubase SX
>------------------IDE 1
CDRW P. Slave-----/

HD2S. Master ----------------------------IDE 2

I'll only be using the HD2 to WORK with & SAVE AUDIO, thats it.

CDR- to make a mix of the songs, I'm keeping it simple
