I have a project with a band to produce an EP, in under a month. We just rented equipment, so time is really short.
The problem i'm having is a technical and also theoretical problem.
Firstly, i don't really understand how SPDIF really works, and I don't know how to configure it properly.
The situation is, we're using a FocusRite Saffire Pro 40 as an interface for drums, using 5 analog inputs for each drum.
And using the API A2D two channel Mic Pre amp to record Kick drum triggers via analog in and Snare drum using a SM57, via analog In on the A2D.
Correct if I'm doing this wrong, but I connect the SPDIF out on the A2D to the SPDIF IN into the Saffire pro 40.
So I get all the analog signals in the Mixcontrol (the corresponding interface software for the saffire), but I don't know how to route the spdif into the mix.
If anyone is familiar with the software, I set "sync source' to Internal, but when i switch to SPDIF, i get no signal from any of my analogs anymore. It's like a trap.
Now when I go into Logic Pro 9, all the inputs work fine, from 1-5 (the analog inputs) and I assume the SPDIF inputs are 6/7 so I tried that, and no signal at all. then i tried all of them and it didn't work, yet the analog's did work.
The A2D is getting signal as I can see from it's own HUD, and the Sample rate is set to SYNC.
So in short my problem is getting the signal from the A2D to the Saffire into the Macbook pro.
If anyone can help It'd be very very appreciated.
Cheers.
