I was wondering the type of sound that is created while miking a guitar cab with an AKG 414? i am sure someone out there has done it...A band proposed an idea to me about miking there guitar amp with the 414 they have, i said i have never done it, but told them anything is possible and continued about how i would set it up as a distant mic more over a close mic....maybe i can combine the two, set up a dynamic for the close mic and the 414 at a distant...Am i gonna be wasting my time?

Aside from that, the 414 handles high SPL's pretty well, and a lot of people use them on cabs, even as a close mic, especially on small combos. Honestly, I've had better luck with C2000B, which is a way underated cab mic.-Richie

I've used from a distance in combo with a 57 up close - sounded good for what I wanted and also taking into consideration the small number of mics I have.

Luck
