Hey guys!! I got a gift certificate to Guitar Center for CHRISTmas from my cousins and, while I was supposed to go today, I'm actually going tomorrow to possibly buy a Home Recording book. I would like to get one that is decently user friendly and is informative on the general basics of Home Recording, I.E. EQ'ing, mic placement basics, how to "properly" use a compressor (if there is such a way), etc. It can even be related to digital recording because I am very seriously thinking about selling my 4-track and using that money to buy a good recording sound card with and going digital. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance!!

In CHRIST JESUS,

Brandon

I'm not prone to quoting myself and here I am doing it twice in the same thread, ah well:

I respect free speech and I've found that these sorts of arguments only lead to further dissention. I think uniting under the cause of home recording is the best we can all do...as much as I hate being PC and all that, I'd say sometimes checking some of your beliefs at the door (or at least keeping them out of your sig) can be a good thing.

So there it is. People are gonna keep praising the LORD JESUS H. CHRIST to high heaven and other people are gonna keep slamming them for it. We should be thankful we have the freedom to express ourselves in this way...but let's try not to let it divide us. If you can stand to repress these beliefs from your posts in the interest of avoiding pointless arguments that don't change anyone's mind, then by all means do it.

Gidge, Brandon, I like you guys. I like everyone. I wasn't trying to start anything or flame anyone, I just don't need the extra info. Should all the gay people sign posts stating the fact they're gay. all the wiccans (yours in trees), etc. Personally I don't care if you worship god, trees or go down on old men in the restroom of a truckstop, I just don't want to know about it. I find fundamentalism, extremism of any kind distasteful, that's all. Brandon, no offense son, and Leeking kiss my ass.

I bought the Musicians Guide to Home Recording, its only about 20 bucks at GC. I find it useful in lots of areas from mic placement, processing, equipment choices, its not the end all of recording books but its a good start to the library you'll be starting. Also if your so inclined to use the internet, there are some online "audio engineering" lessons that can be a great place to gather other ideas, and then there is this place.

Peace,
Dennis

Well as a dedicated non-christian I haven't found anything here offense. Preachy does sometimes offend me, and people preaching politics disguised as religion (Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson) REALLY piss me off. So having established that, let me say that I didn't find anything offensive in Brandon's post. When did CHRISTmas become offensive? Jeez some of you guys need to relax and take a pill or something. Gidge is right, a little tolerance goes a long way.

And I might add that while magazines are fine, books do have value. Technology may change but physics, good micing ability, and general musical knowlage is timeless. I suspect that any of those books Bruce recomended will still be a good read ten years from now.

I think it is.

Im athiest, and really the christ thing at the bottom of the guys post didn't bug me one bit... But at the beginning of his post, I felt it was being shoved in my face when he said that like about "Getting something for CHRISTmas"

I mean, putting capitals on that is spitting it in your face... I was totally offended by that.

So many Christians here, that are cool and go about the business of discussing recording, and then you get one like this who really makes the whole thing look bad...

PS, To answer his question... Spend the money on some new strings and picks..... Theres enough info on the web, you don't need any "books"

Gentlemen, I didn't want to start a shit storm and I appologise to all. You're right, I should lighten up.
Yours in sin and debauchery

Tolerance is acceptable and appreciated when there is something mildy bothering going on...

Christmas is NOT offensive.... Yelling CHRIST before saying mas.. is an offensive way of expressing a religious holiday, to the majority of the public...

What If a devil worshipper come onto a Christian website and said...

Im a DEVIL worshiper and I have a snowplowing company called "The DEVILS plow".. I am offering good plowing rates on church parking lots....

What kind of "tolerance would he recieve" Hmmmmmmm?

Either way that cuts it, this is a recording forum..

Take a chill pill everyone

what if a satanist came here, named himself S8-N (satan) and many times referred to his satanist ways......

would he be :

a)most hated dick here

b)one of the most liked dudes here, even by Christians like me

i think we know the answer.......Brandon capitalized CHRIST in Christmas and uses IN CHRIST JESUS in his signature... big whoop...that is not preaching.......

And what exactly do you mean by that? We're at war here!!! Check your peace at the door!

I never accused Godsguitarist of "preaching" I just fail to how the CHRISTmas line had anything to do with Computer Recording and Soundcards.

That's all.

Good grief!

Deputy, remember what I said yesterday 'bout "the point"?

Brandon, I grabbed a few books from a guy named Paul White. They're not real big on technique, but are pretty informative in terms of types/usage of different equipment.
I'm considering a VHS tape series I saw on amazon.com that covers mic types, compression, FX, mastering, etc..
Check it out.

Good luck.

Hey guys!! All I'm going to say is thank you guys for the suggestions. As far as "CHRISTmas" goes, I meant only emphasis, not yelling, and I understand all caps is a generally accepted way of yelling on the internet, but I didn't know how to italicize on this BBS and I'm usually in a hurry, anyways, so I merely don't take the time. Again, I by no means meant for that to be yelling or offensive, although I do understand it can be. Again, I deal with many offensive things at school for 8 hours a day, 5 days a week. It's life. Anyways, thank you guys for your support. I'm really considering not buying one, as suggested by VOXVENDOR, the only thing about that is, I don't always have access to the web and books I can take places with me and not have to waste a lot of paper printing, etc. But, we'll see, because I do need both strings and picks right now... heh. Anyways guys, let's just all chill. It's really pointless going back and forth like this, everybody is right, and everybody is wrong. It also wastes a lot of space for HomeRecording.com. :) I'll stop "yelling" Christ in my posts, etc. out of respect for my fellow recording brethren. Anyways, later guys!! Time to watch Shrek on DivX. :)

In Christ Jesus,

Brandon

Anyone seen the Big Kahuna?

Frankly, I found it interesting, but mostly because DeVito and Spacey are pretty captivating actors -- certainly not because I had a lot of clue what the point of the movie was. Fairly atypical of a movie to not spell out what it's point is.. maybe it was just about acting, because it is fun to watch these guys in their grove.

I still don't get it, but somehow I think it's related to the side-thread of this topic :P

I haven't really look at this site in depth, but it seems to be a pretty good guide: http://www.artistpro.com/CourseList.cfm

As for the arguement going on in here, some of you people spend too much time worrying about what the other man is doing and not enough time worrying about your own lame self.
