Ok, This is for you guys to dissect. I know there's some lead in time on this song, so, please be patient... This is hopefully what I think is a result of reading what you guys say about recording. Hopefully I have learned something.

Here's the mp3 .

Thanks in advance for your input.

Sounds pretty good. Nice stereo spread. Needs just a bit more kick drum IMHO. Very nice.

Hey vice, or is it versa,

Nice tune, easy to listen to, just a coupla things that stand out to me:)

At first that snare shot was annoying but as the song moves along it seems to fit better. Nice timing on the stereo slapback on this track.

Around :37 the cymbal enters a little out of time? Seems rough to me 'til the tom run brings us back.. Is that intentional, or am I just hearing things?

Where are the kick and bass? IMHO a strong kick and bass line would really change the character of this mix. Nice chops on the keyboards but it needs a little more bottom.

Is that some sort of afuche sample. You know what I'm talking about? That cricket sort of sound on the off beat synch. I never got used to it, it may just be my sensitivity to it but it was distracting. Maybe a different sample on the same beats would be less invasive.

Over-all a "nice" mix. Nothing abrasive in the mix, and this allows the melodies to shine!

Nice job, a little more punch and I'd be askin' if I could burn a copy!

Pieces,

Thanks Track Rat and TTryon, I really appreciate you taking the time to listen to the song and post your views... I kinda figured it would be the bottom end that would give me trouble. It gave me a lot of trouble mixing it. I was trying to be real careful not to have too much low end. I don't have any monitors (Altec computer speakers), so it is hit or miss when I mix... Anyway, I have some questions about how to bring the low end out a little more.

Should I be looking for a specific frequency or is it as simple as a bass boost? Right now everything in the mix is sitting just under 0db as it is and everytime I try to bring out the low end it either gets real muddy or it clips. Any suggestions?

Oh yeah, the cymbals are off beat on purpose...

Thanks again,

Vice

Vice is nice,
I liked this. Very good listening music. Don't know enough to make any suggestions, but I like what you are doing.
