You already know I like it...makes me wanna get out my mousse...oh wait, I cut all my hair off:mad:

it rocks:D

did gidge say it rocks?

It freaking rocks.

Sometimes I thought that the vox was too far back, then I remembered that you are just being true to the good old 80s.

I really like the power in the voice. And the bigness of the guitars. The kick and bass are where they should be.

Keep it up.

cyan: power in the voice??? wow, you make my day! the reason I never posted anything here for such a long time was my voice.
ok, it got better lately - so I finallly posted something.
but it's still funny, when I listen to my stuff I hear the vocals right thru - no matter how much low cut, reverb and delay. maybe just because I hear MY voice thru the thickest musical mud :D .

by the way: are you related to pink panter? ha!

thanks for your replies.
:)

It rocks ? A LOOOT MORE THAN THAT !

A very good work, keep it up (and can I say to my friends that I know a star from the 80's ?... :) :D ...)

Did u record everything yourself ?

BTW very fine song !

well, jumpingflash (has that name something to do with the stones?), back in the 80's I wasn't even able to play the tambourine... ok, maybe in the late 80's I was quite a good marching drum player ;)

the bass and drums are - don't slap me - sequenced. although I could play both instruments I don't think my neighbours would apreciate it - at least the drums. and since I don't have a bass-guitar I have to sequence it to.

the guitars of course are real - although recorded direct. I really would like to mic the amp but - as I said - my neighbours would kill me. I guess they already think I'm nuts anyway hearing me singing the same things over and over again (without the instrumental tracks) ;).

anyway... it seems this song got quite good (and it's one of my earliest). maybe that's really the point I should send this stuff to some labels (sony switzerland is just around the corner).

thanks again for your replies.

I'll try to upload some more songs - but it kind of sucks to handle 4MB-files with a 56k-connection and then wait 2 weeks for it to be approved.

cheers

Can i ask you what you used to make those really good drums ?

The flams and rolls feel very real !!

a cheap sequencer and a WHOLE LOT OF TIME.

really. you just have to sequence it as a drummer would play it. but a realistic sounding soundfont helps a lot.
I downloaded a bunch, choose the one which came closest to what I wanted and taylored it a bit to my needs.

normally there's 2 snares in one GM-patch. in the font I used for that song the 2nd snare is basically the 1st but with a bit 'rim' in it.

so taking the 2nd snare for the last hit of a roll really improves the whole impression. same for fams.

and don't forget to make the roll quieter than the last hit.

Cool tune! Its really got that 80's flare to it! Mixing sounded perfect to me. Curious on what kind of vocal mic you used?

Question...

The drums sound great for sequenced drums....

Where did you get that soundfont from?

That was some of the finest drum programming I've ever heard!
The only person I've ever heard that is in the same league is SmartApple.... (he's also on mp3-dot-com).

The guitar parts were excellent, too. ;)

I agree that the vocals were a bit buried. I also heard you stretching a few notes that seemed too high for you to reach "naturally". It made some of the notes slightly flat.

That's where you have to decide whether you want to lower the part an octave, or rely on electronic help (antares autotune).
Please, don't take that as a slam, though. You were getting waaay up there... where most men dare not even go!

All in all, I really liked the song... alot!
The arrangement is perfect and the song has great flow.

Excellent work. :)

synergy: poooooh... I don't know anymore. I only know that it's made out of samples of the roland TD10.

buck62: about the vocals - I wouldn't say I have problems with the top range (I could hit the highest g on a electric guitar - though it doesn't sound that great). but I know that I tend to sing flat ;).
the main problem is the low end of my headvoice where I have no power and no tone at all. switching to chest voice it sounds too "pressed" and I have a hard time hitting the pitches.
lowering parts an octave is no option tome - you lose quite a lot of expression.
