Better Than You
I know I'm gonna get shot at for this, but here goes...
When I was in middle school and High school I was never into what every one else was. I was a big, big, big Kiss and Alice Cooper, Rush, Black Sabbath, and Ted Nugent fan. To me everyone that was into the Who, or Zep, or Hendrix, just seemed to be following thier big brother (which I didn't have). People would start fist fights when ever I said I didn't like those bands. So now that I'm looking back some 20 years or so......to me they still suck. When ever there is a "who is the best" thread on here it's always the same damn names. So this one is "WHO IS THE DAMN MOST OVERRATED SUCK ASS BAND EVER". Please DO NOT BOTHER TO REPLY WITH "YOUR NUTS THIER GREAT" because they are not and I don't care to hear how GD great they are! They suck! Please save the "you don't know what you're talking about " replies for another thread. This is NOT a debate thread.
My list is a follows...

1. The Who. Damn I always hated them. "magic bus" DOES NOT ROCK. "my generation" sucks, and for gods sake WTF is "squeeze box"??? First time I heard "Tough Boys" I knew Pete was gay. Got jumped by 7 guys first time I said that out loud in high school. 3 of those guys later turned out to be gay, too. The Who SUCK! I wish thier tour bus would crash into Justin Timberlakes bus and rid the world of the lot of them.

2. Hendrix. Sloppy ass guitar player. He may have been a great showman, but he really was nothing great on guitar! Everyone says "oh, he brought blues to rock and roll" Bull! Rock came from the blues. And if Hendrix did that....what the hell was it Elvis, or Chuck Berry did? To this day I can't sit thru one damn song of his. The man made noise! Purple Haze is the WORST solo ever recorded. I watch old video of him and think "God, he really sucks"

3. Zepplin. Page is a good song writer....but can't play a damn lick. That solo at the end of (or is it before) Heartbreaker sounds like sh*t! He stumbles all over it. Everytime I hear that I think "I can't believe they put that on an ablum". The movie Song Remains The Same show how damn boring they are to watch, and how sloppy that waste is....and Jimmy...that bow thing you do sounded like sh*t! If I hear Stairway to Heaven one more time I'll open my wrist. No one can tell me what the hell that song is suppose to be about, either. All the Zep heads say is "ah, it's so deep. You have to really listen to the words to understand it, I can't explain it to you". Bullsh*t! The words make no sence and even Plant admits that. BTW...that MF can't sing!

The next one doesn't really make the list, but while I'm bitching let me get this off my chest...
Kenny Wyane Sheppard....sucks! Saw him with Double Trouble the other night...he is NO Stevie Ray. :o Highly overrated. (Nugent, and ZZ top were great though....great show, just could have done without Kenny)

Sweaty Teddy blows dead goats. No, make that he rims old homeless men at truck stops.

Don't try and sugar coat it, tell us what you really think. Ha! Ha! You need to settle down, plug your guitar into a Line 6 POD and let the sweet sounds of music dissipate your anger.
Having said that, I never did think much of Hendrix, I do like "The Song Is Over" by the Who and the intro to "Stairway To Heaven" is the only good thing about that song.

Peace :D

I think Rush is SEVERLY overrated. I like maybe five of their songs, but five good songs does not a great band make. When Alex showed potential, Geddy sang like total shit. Once Geddy toned his horrible voice down, then Alex created a noodling, nonmusical, monotonous style all his own. Neil is a pussy drummer, probably a closet homosexual too. A FUCKING WOODBLOCK FOR CHRISSAKES. Pisspoor songwriting for the most part. And the lyrics? Purposely intellectual, like a trekkie trying to play 3D chess in his volkswagon.

I only like a few choice Hendrix tunes as well. I can't sit through Star Spangled Banner. I don't like Purple Haze. His rendition of All Along the Watchtower is not worthy of my attention (I completely hate Dylan too, but that's a whole other topic), and his psychedelia just rambles into stupidity.

I'm not all that jazzed about The Who. Aside from a couple of their earlier tunes and Eminence Front, their stuff just, well, sucks. Still don't understand why people think Keith was talented. Sloppy as fuck.

Where did the idea that Randy Roads was a guitar god come from? I'll understand if you saw him live and he just totally kicked ass, but this opinion is totally unfounded otherwise. Sloppy and horrible to listen to studio-album wise, I make it a habit to avoid like the plague that guitar sound when I am working on pre-production.

The Eagles annoy me, Styx grates on my nerves, Heart is a joke, and I wish REO Speedwagon would quit popping up on radio. Even if it is only seldom.

Heartland rock is evidence that there is something seriously wrong with the cosmos. Springsteen, Seger, Etheridge, Raitt, Petty.

Pink Floyd. Well, sorta. I mean, yeah, I do love Dark Side of the Moon. Wish You Were Here is a perfect 10. The Wall is about a 7.5 (dude, the last side of that double album is horrible). But Animals is just shit. Really, really bad. Every few years I give it a listen to try and understand, but it just makes me want to leave the room. If I call them overrated, then I have to stick in the qualifier that those 2.75 albums were really REALLY good. So good that it may offset the lameness of the rest of their catalog.

And finally, although I don't think this band is overrated, I am about to risk getting kicked in the nads for the following blasphemy: Sgt. Pepper is crap. That's right, the album is garbage. It is NOT their best album. In fact, if you look at it from a quality song to total per album ratio, that album ranks right up there with Beatles for Sale as the worst album in the catalog. If I could reverse time, I would break into their studio, steal the mastertapes, salvage "Within Without You", "Lucy in the Sky", and "Day in the Life" and delete the rest. I would also fast forward a few and rid the world of "Fool on the Hill" as well.

Although I love Rush (one of my favs), that is funny as hell because it's all true.:p

I wont argue that many of the so called greats have not really been so great. I just want to add a few names to your list, how about the gimmic king, Eddie Van Halen, I'm so tired of hearing how great he is when if you take away the processors and the on stage showmanship and a few guitar tricks all you have left is a slighyly above average guitarist. Or maybe Peter Frampton, also well known for his overuse of effects. What about the vast array of Heavy Metal ( too many to name) who use so much distortion that no matter what they do, it all sounds the same. Do I need to go on? Yes there are guitarists out there that I do admire but they are the ones that really do play, without having to rely on effects and processors and tape loops or some sort of gimmic, but on skill and dexterity and plain old fashioned playing ability. Its too bad that more people are not more discerning and care enough about quality to inspire the producers and promoters to provide us with more quality talent.

I dislike Pink Floyd immensley!Dark Side is ok I guess..but the rest just SUCKS!

The Who...well I dont care for alot/most of it but there is some..Hell,after a millon albums you gotta hit the mark once in a while{Whos Next}

Zep..I never liked them when I was a kid..As I got older I learned to like 'em more..Plants voice still bugs me..not a favorite for sure!

Hendrix..You guys have said it all...I thought I was the only one ;)

Styx..Should be made to listen to their own albums so they can suffer the same discomfort they have given the world..Overaught Broadway crap!Mister Roboto domo arigoto..says it all

The Beach Boys..Cheese makeing brought by guys on surfboards!

Kiss..Take the makeup away and what do you have..four guys who cant play or write..I hated them when they came out..and I still think they suck!God somebody drive a stake in this musical vampire!

Aerosmith..After "Rocks"...perhaps the drugs were a good thing!Face it when you have Diane Warren writeing songs with you well its time to give it up!

Jim Stineman/Meatloaf..Tommy Tune does rock n Roll.."Whats it gonna be boy ?" Yes or no...No!! go away!

Just a side not here...
...when I say I'm a big Kiss fan, please don't think that means I believe them to be good musicians. It's the whole package I love. Greatest show on earth. However, take away the show, and...well......

I once read an interview with Ace where he said that he didn't realize he was so worshiped back in the day. Said he really feels bad, and that if he had known he was influencing so may guitar players he would have taken some lessons and tried to learn how to play.

Damn.. totally forgot about Aerosmith. Good call, Henry!

They suck. All the way back to Toys in the Attic. It amazes me that here they have a few really kick ass songs like "Sweet Emotion" and "Walk this Way", and yet the rest of the album is unbelievably terrible, like two totally different bands played on that album. And everything after that except maybe, MAYBE, "Jamie's Got A Gun" is the real deal: if you define "real deal" as typical banal songwriting, banal singing, and banal playing. (I used to like "Love in an Elevator", but that song erodes with time).

About Kiss. My opinion is still out to lunch on them. Partly because of a few Gene songs like "Cold Gin", and the fact if you ask the right member of the band (usually Gene or Ace) you will find that they dont take themselves so seriously. (Was is Gene that compared the music to "Dinosaur turds"?). But Paul. I hate Paul. His attitude, his singing, his looks.. And it gets worse when he actually tries to be musical..

I guess with Kiss, my opinion can be summed up by a friend of mine who met the band at the party. It was a party where business owners were introducing themselves (Hello, I am so-and-so and I own such-and-such) and my friend approached Paul and said jokingly "Hello, I am Steve and I am a loser". Paul, in a "let's give everyone a group hug" attitude said with a straight face, "Oh no! Don't say that! You are a winner! All of us are winners!"

Steve spent the rest of the night getting drunk and telling dirty jokes with Gene.

Shit, I want to join this game to. I really want to kick some great bands ass. But everytime i think of a band that I don't like it turns out I've listened to at most one album with them.

It's a pity Rush used to make great music. If their entire production had been like their latest album I certainly would have been in a hate mood. Bought it, listened to it, put it away. Haven't had it in a player since. Hurt my ears...

I wish White Stripes were great and that I had heard more than one song with them. That song truly sucks...

Nirvana? What I've heard of them sucks, but i've only heard three songs. That's as much chance as they'll get.

Styx, nah, I accidently bought an album with them. They're boring but not bad.

Maybe Rolling Stones? I don't have very strong feelings either way about them and I've heard more than an album.
Yeah, I can tell myself that they suck, can I hate them please?

I'm gonna get some grief for this....:D.....but you guys are full of crap about Hendrix.
First, you all name a couple of his most mass-market songs (which are never an artist's best work) when the stuff no-one ever hears is his best stuff.
And, although it is true that current guitarists have smoother, less sloppy chops than he did, they have them because they had him to listen to and improve on. Plus, no one has the fire and intensity that Jimi had.

And I didn't see anyone say Stevie Ray Vaughn sucks....well every single freakin' lick Stevie played came straight from Hendrix.
Like it or not, Hendrix changed the course of electric guitar and his influence is everywhere.

Stevie Ray Vaughn sucks.

Big clunky ass strings.

Hey bro.....if you're gonna say someone sucks simply because you say so, and then say that if you say they suck then that means they suck with no discusiion because you say so.....then you're gonna have to expect some people to argue the point.
If you want to pontificate and then have people only respond in the narrow way you've decided....then you're in the wrong place.
As for trying to tell me what I can or can't say.........forget it.
All threads are whatever they turn into.

True, I did name his most popular stuff, but the psychedelia I was referring to applied to the rest of his catalog.

Of all the songs on Electric Ladyland, I only like two tunes.

And of all the songs on Are You Experienced, I only like one.

The live stuff I have is the same way: maybe one song that I dig, the rest to me is just toxic rambling.

I agree, like Track Rat says "Tell us who you like."
We are all floating out here now, save us, who should we like that doesn't suck?

Is now a bad time to tell that I like Blood, Sweat, and Tears? :p
