Did an early morning gig yesterday with my daughter, a breakfast to raise money for breast cancer, I was going to go acoustic but thought it would be easier guitar wise to play electric quietly.
In the second number the neck pickup dropped into the cavity. The screws had worked loose and it was holding on by one which chose that moment to completely let go.
They are a pain in the arse to put back, but if you use a long-nose visegrip you can lock the spring up the shank of the screw enough to get the thread started.

It has not happened to me while gigging but I know what a pain in the ass they can be to get back together especially without taking the pick guard off.

yeah it happened to me when i was trying to lower my neck pickup. it fell in. i took all the strings off and then somehow got it back in its rightful place again. took a while though.
