ever put their PA into a 70 volt system?
Is there any danger of the 70 volt system leaking back into a regular PA and destroying the PA?

What do you mean? If you just are sending line level signal into a line level input of the 70v system it should work fine and have no harmful effect on your stuff. If you are trying to drive a 70v speaker system with one of your non-70v amps it probably won't work well but I doubt you'll break anything.

Yeah just sending a feed to the 70 volt system.

A few friends said to be careful of the 70 volt system it could leek back to my live PA rig which got me a thinking. I searched the web to no avail so I thought that I would ask here.

On the console I'm using it has L/R and mono mains out ..... thought I would give them the mono out.

I think your friends may be full of... well, full of it. I can think of no way that would happen. 70v systems are just to transform the signal to a higher voltage (at the "expense" of current) so that if the speakers are a far way off, the voltage drop over the long cable run does not result in poor sound. There is a transformer at the start of the cable run, and another at the speaker that transforms it back to the voltage the speaker does best with (I can't recall what that voltage is.) It's a passive system, there is nothing in the signal path that is going to damage your PA.

Check with your PA manuf. to be sure, but I feel confident I am telling you the truth. I would keep my mouth shut if I was not sure.

OK great thanks guys just a first time virgin to this type of set up.

You should be fine. What they mean by 70v is that the speakers are designed to take a signal on the order of 70v, not that there is some 70v potential elsewhere in the system. It's designed to accommodate systems with many speakers and long cable runs. The line inputs are like those on any other gear.

So mono mains out from the console should be fine as long as I have the right connecters?
What about putting something like a Radial passive Di in line?

The mono main out from the mixer should be fine. Find out if the 70v system's input is balanced, what level it expects (mic, consumer line, pro line), and what connector. The best connection would be balanced +4dBu at both ends. I would only use a direct box if the mono output is unbalanced and you have to run a long line, if the input is mic level or maybe if there's some problem with hum.
