Hi all,

I was recently approached by someone wanting to sell me a digitech IPS 33b harmonizer/pitch shifter. I thought it would be a great addition to my small some studio BUUT more importantly I wanna use it with my guitar rig as a whammy/pitchshifter/chorus/a million other effects...

Has anybody had any experience with one of these? I am not really concerned with tracking, as I know that for a pitchshifter it is quite old and low-fi. But since I wanna use it with my guitar rig im more worried about tweakability from a footswitch standpoint.

I cant seem to find a lot of info on these as they are fairly obscure (i tried reading the manual online but some portions are missing). ANY help/tips/recommendations are appreciated.

Also, if anyone knows the full extent of this units whammy capabilities please let me know.

Thanks guys!

I have it. I only use it for the whammy. It has the exact same chipset as the original WH-1 whammy pedal and is the only whammy that is exactly the same and the only one that uses the chipset. For a good price I wouldn't pass it up considering the WH-1 goes for $5-600 on average. It sure isn't no crappy WH-4 that you can buy today. :)

Sounds good man!

Not to bother you, but i have SO MANY questions!! hehe

1. Do you use it with a (or multiple) footswitch(es) for bypassing or changing settings? If so which ones would work? (the one ill buy does not come with any footswitches  )

2. Which expression pedal do you use?

3. How does it color your guitar tone when not on? (if at all noticeable)

4. how does it fair with distortion? (ill probably have my dists after the 33b)

5. can the whammy do two octaves up and down like the WH-1? if not, what range does it have?

thanks for any info man I really appreciate it. Also if you think I should know anything else please do tell..

P.S: sorry for the long list of questions...hope you have the time and patience to answer them..

cheers!

I personally only use preset 97 which is whammy up 1.

2. I use a regular ernie ball volume pedal with it

3.When bypassed with the bypass button (which I just hit with my finger) there's no coloring. When you have it on (preset 97 at least) it colors you tone but in a good way. It's hard to explain but it's a nice harmonized chorus tone, nothing major more subtle.

4.It goes well with anything. I use it before distortions

5. I believe it does exactly what the WH-1 does. I forget what preset # 2 up is though.

Just listen to anything Gilmour's done in the studio with a whammy and you'll hear the IPS.
