Has Anyone Got A Yamaha RX8?

I know my Yamaha drum machines pretty well - what's the question?
 
Is there anyway to tame the boinginess of Toms 1, 2, 3 and 4? They ring on just a tad too long.
 
Have the RX8 and manual here, and it looks like the toms are only pitchable. There's not a means of changing their decay in the box.
 
I have the manual too. I was hoping there'd be some kind of work-around :(
 
You could send the toms out through the individual 1 & 2 outputs and gate them.

I really wanted to save those for the kick and the snare. Besides, I could only do that with two of them.

Could you MIDI up the RX8 and record the toms seperately using Left, Right, 1 & 2?
 
I suppose so. Just tell me I don't need any fancy (read: pricey) equipment.

My current budget for new gear is somewhere between £zilch and £nada. BTW :)
