If anyone has gotten one of these mic pres from M-Audio, I would like to hear your impressions.

I'll answer the question for everyone here.... TOTALLY-TRANSPARANTLY-AWESOME !!!

Dear Skycries 57:

Your too succinct. Could you ooh and aah a little more?

Just kidding but I would like to know if you stack ranked the DMP3 against other pres. Any comparisons you would like to make?

So I'm thinking...

After almost a week of waiting to see if anyone actually has a DPM3 mic pre, and getting no response, I assume all the raving others have made about this product is perhaps bogus.

There are numerous people here, who will go un-named, that refer to this product as "the best out there under $500" and "very transparent".

So this gets me thinking how many people here, have knowledge based only on what they read and not on actual use of many of the product reccomendations.

Then I begin to question the whole premise of this board except for Sonusman, Harvey and Blue Bear who have obvious experience.

Now this said, if my whole belief is that this place is a mecca for others to learn and share information and I discover that in bases of fact, it is simply a chat room filled with those who type saying nothing using an inordinate amount of words, then I must come to the conclusion that few great things reside here except the desire to type and read.

Would someone please respond so that my faith in recording kind is not shaken?

Well, there ya go.

I answer qusetions based only on products that I own, or have used enough to give an opinion. Ask me about Mackie boards, Yamaha digital boards, or SSL consoles, or the difference between the sound of a Art pre or a Focusrite Red7. Lots of other stuff, too.....but I've never used a DMP3.
And it pisses me off when people think Ed, Bruce, and Harvey are the ONLY people around here with any "experience" just because they obviousally have more free time to post alot of stuff on this board. There are lots of people who know their stuff here, you can easily tell who does and who doesn't.

H2H

Middleman, you make some good points.

I don't own a dmp3, but I do own a dmp2, which is the younger sibling of the dmp3. All I can say is buy with confidence. M-audio preamps have always been noted for crystal clear gain. The audio buddy, the dmp2, and the omni-studio are all variations of the same preamp technology. Many of us own one or more of these units, so I think that constitutes as "close enough."

And as far as Ed, Harvey, Shailat and others go, I would actually think they would be a very poor source of opinions on something like the dmp3. They all play with much more expensive toys, and I can't imagine them running out to buy or audition a $200 preamp so they can give a review on it to some nebie at homerecording.com.

I have the DMP2 and used it extensively last year and although I dont own a DMP3, I have heard the DMP3 briefly and it is my understanding that they are exactly the same with VU meters and more features. It is a great pre, clean and transparent. The recommendations here are not empty. I ran alot of vocals through it and was satisfied for the most part. (The only flaw would be..they are a little thin,,, which worked for some voices and didnt work for others.) As chessrock said, I would imagine that most others here who recommend the DMP3 are doing that based on the performance of the DMP2 or omni i/0 which also has the DMP2s.

Dude...you need to learn how to read into posts. It is part of the beauty of life that people derive opinions based on things they read (posted by others) experience, etc. and not only experiences that they have had. If you have no concept and ability to qualify the statements and opinions rendered, then you are right... maybe this isn't the place for you. Obviously the statements of the gentlemen that you mentioned are valued. However, you will find that some people specialize in certain things. Granted there are many that know very little about a broad range of topics (Me... I know very little about very little, and that is not to say that I know a lot about a lot :p ). But the owner of a particular piece of gear is not the only one who may comment.

Example: What if someone goes to a store and checks out a Mic Pre and hates it. Obviously, he would not buy it. Wouldn't you like to hear from someone who does not like an item, just why that is. If you close your mind to only those who own them, then you are saying that you don't want to hear from the people who have tried and disliked a unit. When you read a post don't you simply disregard the ones that have no foundation? If someone says that they love a MXL v67 and don't tell you why, you can either ask, or move on to the next post.

Or you can just lash out in a fit of sillyness. Then you will really get a straight response the next time you ask about something.

I personally have never used a DMP3. From what I have READ, it is well liked amongst us weekend warriors for its transparency and cheap price. You could try one out and let us know how you like it too.

Good luck,

Fangar

So why are YOU wasting your time here? Your vapid, meandering post never makes a viable point, states nothing of value, but it does say something about you. You ARE the kind of person you are complaining about. Ironic, isn't it?:D

Ok...

I figured I'd rattle a few cages. Actually I was looking to stir things up.

Skycries57, chessrock, JuSumPilgrim, thank you for your input. I will probably wait another month to see if FMR comes across on their device. If I see no eminent sign of release I will get the DMP3 and let everyone know what the experience was like.

Middleman,

It's probably still a bit early for this unit to be widely purchased and evaluated.

At their price point the DMP3 is geared for the "weekend warrior" we can't afford to run out and buy one on a whim.

Also I bet alot of others are waiting for Alan Hyatts new pre the VMP? (I think it's called) and the rumored FMR preamp. Then after all of those come out and all of them get a review here and there you will probably get more input on this board.

I know even if I had the money now I would probably still wait out the othe two pre's that are on the way for reviews before I bought any of them.

Good luck
