I know a guy selling a Topaz for cheap...

My only experience on recording is with my FirePod and I´m tempted to make the change...

How do you use your Topaz in the studio? How do you have it hookedup with your DAW? (which ad/da or card are you using, are you mixing OTB, etc)

Any comments or things to have in mind? Thanks!

We run the Topaz into our Mackie HDR2496. We do most of our mixing through the Topaz, although I sometimes import the rendered tracks into Adobe Audition 3 and do my mixing there. The Mackie has 3 8-channel Analog i/o cards and we use those.

After you´re done mixing, where do you send the 2buss of the Topaz?

I don't normally recall sessions; that's usually for the big room (Studio A), and Alex brings those sessions to his place (in Lewisville), where he dumps them into his SSL 4048G+E. We have 3 Mackie HDR2496 recorders so all sessions are transportable to any of the 3 rooms. Lately, Alex has been doing a lot of recording directly into his Protools HD rig.

If I may hafta recall a session, I'll transfer the tracks to Audition 3, and work on them in the mastering computer.

The 2 buss from the Topaz goes to our Lucid Technology 620 20 bit A/D Converter, then to either a Tascam DA-30 MK II DAT machine, or to an M-Audio Micro II recorder, thru a SPDIF cable. From there, they're transferred to our mastering computer.
