Anyone out there using Hart Dynamics Electronic Drums?
Good, Bad or any comments.

Yup. Excellent, cost effective, solid, reliable. They beat the hell out of the Roland stuff I used to use. I now have a StudioBX kit with mesh heads, supplemented with some Pintech Nimrods and a Hart Multipad, trigering both a Roland TD-10/TDW1 for the main kit and an Alesis DM5 for incidental noises. I have 6 SeriesX cymbal pads (the triangular ones on the Aquarian mounts) in addition to the hat and ride triggers. Good stuff, good feel, works for me.

I've never broken a Hart pad. I've broken a _lot_ of Roland pads, back when I was still trying to make them work. But the Hart stuff is built for my rather Neanderthal playing style.

They work very well for me. However, drums are a very individualized instrument: one size does *not* fit all. Don't buy 'em until you've played 'em: my opinion doesn't mean jack, when the sticks will be in _your_ hands.

Check out the forum at vdrums.com for lots of info on different drum pads. Most folks at vdrums have very high opinions of Hart pads.

I have never played an electronic drum so my advice sucks...., but, I have been researching them quite a bit and have basically read everything there is to read about all the brands... and, if I were to buy a bunch of Pads, I would go with Acupad TE3 from Hart....

Alot of Rock Drummers swear by them, including the most famous electronic drummer in the world Rick Allen (Def Leppard)

Seen 'em for $130.00 /pc.. I think it was music 123 or somewhere

Harts dyn.....

Yeah I bought a set of Harts!! For those of you out there with this problem. I hope Nothing Breaks!!!! My high hat spring has broken twice and my ride crash has crashed!! The company i purchased from and Hart Has not been very kind in these repairs! It tool 8 very long weeks to get these drums and know im having trouble.. Good Luck to you if you must deal with these people. I wanted them just to send me a spring for my pedal, because they wanted me to send in the pedal and they would determine if they would fix it for free or not! Plus I pay for the shipping. I havent had these things for more than 8 weeks and only Play on the weekends In the same location so they are not moved or banged up at all!! Well now I got that all said and done thanks for your time.... what makes this kit is the Roland TD6 that I bought with it! any more comments would be great!

Wierd. Who are you talking to at Hart? If you call up and talk to Peter Hart, he'll make it good for you. My experience has been just the opposite of yours- the one or two issues I had when I first bought my kit in 2000 were resolved *muy pronto*. If you check out the experiences of most other Hart users over at vdrums.com, you'll see a lot of similar stories... Peter has popped in over there from time to time to offer setup advice for the TD10 and the like.

I'm really sorry that they haven't done the correct thing for you as yet,. Keep after them, because any failure that happens in that short a time is an assembly or materials defect, and they should most definitely fix it. The hardware does have a lifetime guarantee. Explain that you're a gigging pro, and see if they won't offer you a hot swap- send you a fresh one, and let you return yours after you get theirs so that you'd have no downtime... 800-769-5335. They really are good people: one whole hell of a lot better than the Roland support folks, in my experience. But then again, I had a really bad experience with Roland that will forever color my opinion of them as well...

I'm surprized too. I never dealt with Hart myself, but every report I've ever heard about their customer service has been very positive. Maybe someone was just having a bad day over there.

Roland on the other hand.... What Puds! You can't even download a manual for a Roland module from their website. They charge $20 for a paper copy. Roland makes nice equipment, especially the modules. But you can get better, cheaper pads and their service sucks.

Sort of late but...

Thought i would check in...

Nierbo...

Those homemade pads work excellent.... But im getting rid of them....

Beyond the fact that the response is great and everything works nice... The quality of the remo practice pad is not up to my likings...

I have gone through 2 skins in 2 weeks.... (Maybe 3 hours total playing time).....

At this rate, I might as well buy some shares in Remo :D

It seems one can't tighten the skin enough on these pads.... so instead of bouncing the stick back at ya, it seems to dent the skin.... After so many dents, the skin is just wrecked.

I am placing an order for acupads from Hart.

Im buying 4 toms (Acupads)..

And im converting my Yamaha Maple custom Absolute into a Dual trigger snare.... (not home made).. Im actually buying the proper kit from hart....

Same conversion on my 22" bass drum...

I have looked at all the brands and done mega research, and I think Hart are the best.....

Joe

Just ordered the Acupads... 3 Single triggers, and 1 dual trigger....

Got an awesome deal on these...

$126.99 Single

$159.99 dual

The singles list for $179.99, and the Duals list for $219.99 (I think)

I decided against the snare conversion, and decided to just convert my bass drum, and use the dual trigger acupad for a snare.....

Damn dude, you using baseball bats or what? ;)

I haven't used Hart pads myself, but I've heard nothing but good things about them. I'm sure you'll be happy with them.

Hehe....

Yeah.. I don't think it's my playing or sticks, cause it's never happened on any other drum....

I think it's because all of the foam and shit inside, that doesn't let you tighten the skin down as needed....

Maybe.. I don't know... thats just a guess....:D

Can't wait to get the acupads....;)

Keep in touch... Im just getting into the E-drumming thing...If ya get a moment send me an email bro..

hey voxvendor, did you get those hart pads yet? anxious to hear your review. i'm ready to dive in (ie. have the cash) to an e drum kit but unsure of whether to go with hart pads or pintech? any research you've (or anyone else) done to compare?

Still waiting..... Takes a while to get stuff into Canada.... Plus the only option I had was ground shipping from FLA.....

I should be getting them around the 22nd (next monday).... Lets cross our fingers....

I got the Hart bass drum conversion kit.... I will be setting that up today.. I'll jump on later tonight and give you a review...

I hate bass drum pads, which is why I went with the conversion..... The bass drum is sort of a central part of the drum kit..... without it, something just doesn't look right..

I have a nice, brand new (almost) Black Tama rockstar bass...

Watch this thread for a full review on the pads also..

Ok.... Finally got my Acupads....

I love them... They are great..... Way better than V-drums.... V-drums have that tennis racket feel to them, and Acupads respond EXACTLY like an acoustic drum...

Basically they are mesh heads, but the mesh is really thick and dense... Not like those typical mesh heads you can buy that are like window screen...

The mesh is tensioned tight and rests on a bed of foam ,(At least im pretty sure thats whats going on.).. I think this foam is what take the tennis racket bounce out of it...

Anyways... They play awesome... They feel great... they mount on regular Pearl tom arms... I have a Pearl DR-80 Rack, and it works perfect for my set up... Check it out at one of the online retailers... pretty cheap, yet strong.

I was at my local music store, and I won't use any names, but I walked by the few "other" brands, and it was like they were neat looking, come in different colour, but looked amatuerish... Like a teenager would have them in his bedroom (Sorry V-drum owners... It's just opinion);)

Oops, I said I wasn't going to mention any names...:D

Im not slamming V-drums.. I know they are really good.. (yet overpriced..)

So, anyways.. I get home here take mine out of the box, and they look awesome, black with black heads and the chrome hoop with proper tensioning lugs....

I know looks aren't everyhting, but they are SOMETHING! These things look industrial, like they belong on NIN or Metallica's Stage.. (hopefully without Lars playing)

The pictures on Harts site don't do any justice....

Anyways.. they are very simple... I noticed with the Rolands, that the mounting system seems to be a bit bulky.... These just have a hole on the side and the tom arm slides in and you tighten a little lug with a drum key.. Nothing sticking out, no rods, bars, or bolts...

They play awesome... They are very responsive... I have been doing rolls, where I lighten right up, and it still catches every hit..

All they take are instrument patch cords.... I bought all black to go with the kit...

Anyways.... I will try and take a picture of the kit and post it in the coming week, but I can't promise I will have time to get that together...

Go and git some!

Do some google searches.... I have read online somewhere that people complain that the mounting system with the pintechs is crappy and they move around while playing...

As I say.. Do a search... Im not sure where I read this, but I DID read it... maybe it was on Harmony Centrals website... Who knows....

Good Luck..

Joe

Oh... I got mine at Music 123..... They have the best Pricing...

http://www.music123.com/Item/?itemno=28844

Their online prices are a bit higher, but they will match prices, you just have to email them...I had them match $126.99 for the singles, and $159.99 for double triggers

Check out the forum at Vdrums.com. The site is primarily for Roland Vdrummers, but there are lots of posts on other brands too.

Vox,

Glad to hear you like those pads. Now you got me thinking about reworking my current home-made pads with the Hart heads instead of the Roland mesh heads. I never did like that bouncy feel of Roland heads.
