Hey...
I have a slight problem. I almost have this mix for my band nailed the only problem is that one of the female vocal tracks. All the S's and C's are VERY pronouced and they give you that harsh ping in your ears that makes it very unpleasent to listen to (not good if you want other people to listen to it :) ) Any sugguestions...?

Hi,

If you recorded the vocals with a pop filter and a appropiate (sp?) level you can use a EQ sidechained into a compressor with the EQ lowering the freqs that don't cause the S's and C's to sound harsh so the compressor only works on those freqs.

Thanks I should try that I don't know why I didn't think of that (duh!). Does anyone know what the frequency would be or does this change depending on what key your singing in etc?

This can vary some. It should be somewhere around 3.5 khz to 7 khz but could be as high as 10 khz. You have to hunt for it. If you have sweepable mid-highs and adjustable bandwith on your board you can find it pretty fast. The S's will be at a higher freq than the C's.

you need a de-esser if you cant do it with eq. you can do the compresser trick, by boosting the frequency and using the sidechain.

if you're recording on a computer, im sure you can find a de-esser plug in somewhere

I have one but don't know how to use it. Do you have one you would recommend? and also this might be another dumb question but how do I side chain? I am using N-Track and the Blue line of plug-ins? I don't know if this helps any.
