Hardware vs Software

So, the other day I finally got around to re-recording some vocals through my ART Voice Channel. When they were originally recorded, they were dry. I've always had trouble getting them to sit on top of the mix. I had tried various compressors and EQ's trying to work them in right, but it never sounded "right" to my ears.

After re-recording the vocals through the ART, they sound so much better to me now. I was able to heavily boost the low end with the EQ built in on the ART, giving the SM58 mic some nice low end to it, without muddying up the mix (a problem I've always faced when boosting the lows with software), and heavily cut ~800hz to get rid of that annoying honk. It amazed me at how natural it all sounded as compared to using software to do the same.
