hey folks,

i'm down to ordering a hard drive for my daw. any suggestions? scsi? ide? speed?

thanks!

tony

ps - my pc is a celeron 333, 256 sdram (pc100), currently has a 4 gig ide hd, and i'll be using the gadget labs 8/24. haven't decided yet between cep or samplitude

If you're going to work on more than 5 or 6 tracks at once, you may as well get a scsi HD ... though it's not that hard to get by with an IDE drive, considering the price difference.

The newest crop of IDEs with 66 MHz transfer can probably handle anything that CPU is capable of. I've always preferred Maxtor and IBM drives myself. Don't go less than 5400 rpm. Buy low, sell high...

thanks guys!

i ended up buying a maxtor 17.1 gig (i know it runs at 5???) for $230 from cdw. figured the ide was worth a shot at that price. i can always use it for storage if it isn't fast enough.

thanks again,

tony

I would go with a SATA hard drive at least 5 gigs. :D:p:D

This is too funny. I was looking at these old posts and realized just how far we've come. $230 for a 17 gig hard drive? I've got a 500 gig that I'll sell you for $100:D:D
