Hard Drive Speeds

OK here's the next question for 100 points
The catagory is hard drives.
Gentlemen, hands on buzzers.

What would give me faster access times, an internal laptop drive running at 5400RPM's or a USB or Firewire drive running at 7200 RPM's? I want to get an external anyway to at least store and back up projects.

I couldn't give you any stats, but my external USB 2 and firewire drives (7200rpm seagates in external enclosures) access and transfer much faster than my 5200rpm internal drive does in my laptop.

That's cool. I was really hoping for that answer. I know that 7200 RPM's are faster than 5400 RPM's but I wasn't sure about the whole USB or Firewire hookup. I didn't know if it would be as fast once it gets through the USB or Firewire interface.
Anyone else?
