hard drive space problem

I defragmented my hard drive and scanned it, but still, it's taking up some kind of unseen space. When I make a song, I throw everything in my D hard drive, but my C hard drive is still being used up. Before I started tracking I had about 15 GB left on my 20 GB hard drive. Now, even deleting the music files I've made on Sonar or moving the files to my D drive, it's still taking up all that space. I only have about 8 GB left. How can this be when I've moved or erased thosse audio files from C?

Have you tried Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Disk Clean-up?

Just a thought, you did empty the recycle bin right ?
When you move files from c to d it copies them, not really moves them. Do a search for .wav files on your c drive.

If stealthtech's hunch doesn't pan out, the next possible culprit might be Microsoft's latest and greatest... "system restore" are you using Windows Me or XP?

M$ built in a neat "feature" that keeps track of your drives and maintains backups of your files and reference points that you can "restore" to.

Problem is, if you use a lot of large files (can you say audio?), keeping an extra copy of everything you do will suck up your HD in a heartbeat.

Sounds a lot like Windows temp files. You didn't say what OS you were using, but you might want to look in C:\WINDOWS\TEMP and clean out anything you find there.

Another thing to clean (although probably not your problem) is to periodically delete temporary internet files - Disk Cleanup will do that for you, or you can do it from within your browser.
